Summary
- The forthcoming game by TeamKill Media, Code Violet, resembles a modern Dino Crisis title, with time-travel and prehistoric beasts.
- Despite player demand, an official Dino Crisis sequel has yet to emerge, making Code Violet a good potential alternative.
- Fans seeking a new Dino Crisis-like experience should look forward to Code Violet on PS5 in July.
Code Violet is an upcoming indie third-person action horror title from TeamKill Media, the studio behind 2023's unevenly received Quantum Error. While its general design and style has been becoming more prevalent, Code Violet is notable for having heavy shades of one particular classic survival horror franchise. Due to its premise involving time-travel and a protagonist's desperate struggle in a setting where dinosaurs and other prehistoric beasts roam, Code Violet resembles a modern Dino Crisis game in many ways.
Capcom's Dino Crisis series has been defunct for over twenty years at this point. And despite not insignificant player demand for more in the franchise, whether this be a new entry or potential remakes of the existing titles, the developer has yet to commit to the prospect. Given that this appears to remain the case for now, fans in search of similar games should be sure to check out Code Violet later this year, as it looks to be ticking many of the boxes for a Dino Crisis-adjacent experience.
Code Violet will be forgoing a PC version, and is currently set to launch exclusively on PS5 in July.
2025 is Shaping up to Be the Year of Dinosaur Horror
Some upcoming horror releases that feature dinosaurs as a core element could see 2025 become the year that marks the rise of such titles.

An Official Dino Crisis Sequel Still Seems Stuck in Stasis
While Resident Evil usually gets the lion's share of credit and attention for helping to invent and solidify the survival horror genre, Dino Crisis was also right there alongside it during the 90s, when the former rose to prominence. The first two Dino Crisis entries were generally well-liked and at the time it seemed that Capcom had two hits on its hands. However, the third and last entry in 2003 was largely felt to be a disappointment, and with RE going on to become the more profitable and popular IP, Dino Crisis was mostly left behind in favor of Resident Evil and other properties like Devil May Cry.
But the series has never quite gone extinct. Indeed, Dino Crisis topped the list of a recent survey conducted by Capcom asking which IPs fans would want to see revived. Unfortunately, even with players making their desires known, not much has come of this since, and there has been no word from the studio about if, or when, it will possibly be revisiting the franchise.
Code Violet Could Serve as the Dino Crisis Sequel Fans Have Been Asking For
The game's official site outlines Code Violet's story framework as:
In the 25th century, a cataclysm has left Earth uninhabitable, driving humanity’s survivors to Trappist 1-E. Facing extinction due to sterility, the Aion colony harnesses time-travel technology to abduct women from the past to be surrogates in a dark yet desperate bid to save humanity. But their mission conceals a sinister conspiracy. As Violet Sinclair, torn from your time, you awaken in the Aion Bioengineering Complex, swarming with ferocious prehistoric dinosaurs and hostile forces. Uncover Aion’s dark secrets, fight to survive, and escape during a chaotic evacuation protocol.
The core features and mechanics highlighted for Code Violet will be very familiar to many genre fans, and include items such as:
- Limited inventory slots requiring the management and prioritization of weapons, healing items, and puzzle-solving tools
- Intricate environmental and mechanical puzzles to unlock paths and secrets
- Intelligently designed beasts and classic dinosaurs that stalk you unpredictably, blending nostalgia with cutting-edge AI for unforgettable chases
Based on this as well as the other trailers and screenshots that TeamKill has put out for it, it looks like Code Violet could very well serve as the next best thing to a fresh Dino Crisis entry, and scratch that itch for those who have been patiently awaiting and hoping for one.
