Disco Elysium-The Final Cut: Inspect the Traps Guide

Disco Elysium is a narrative-based RPG where players take control of an amnesiac detective struggling through a murder mystery. Along with his new partner Kim Katsuragi, the main character can explore the war-torn city of Martinaise to discover many strange occurrences and characters outside the main case.

Some of these side stories wrap back around to being relevant in the central mystery while others help the main character regain memories of his past. This guide will help players through one of the larger side quests in Disco Elysium. The hunt for the Insulidian Phasmid cryptid spans the entire game and involves aiding a couple of Cryptozoologists in their search.

Speak to Lena on Day 2

Lena the Cryptozoologist's Wife is staying at the Whirling In Rags. Players can have a friendly chat with her on Day 1 of the murder case if they choose to. Speaking to her on Day 2 will cause her to reveal that her husband has gone searching for the cryptid on the southwestern coast of Martinaise. She will give the player the task to go and find him to make sure he is safe. The canal crossing to the coast is blocked by a damaged sign, so that's as far as the sidequest can go at this point in the story.

Cross the Canal on Day 3

On Day 3 the sign will be removed from the canal. This allows the player to pull the lever on the nearby maintenance panel and close the water-lock. This opens up the southwestern coast for exploration.

Find Morell

Lena's husband is far to the northwest, past the old Feld Electrical building. Tell Morell that Lena is looking for him and the canal is open. Get him to talk about the traps he's using to find the phasmid. Offer to check the traps for him, and he will accept. The player must now check all four of them including the one Morell just set in front of him. This particular trap will not be useable until at least one other trap has been inspected.

Trap Location #1

The first trap is located directly to the southwest of Morell by the boathouse and the old building with the bullet-ridden wall. Reach inside it to check if there's any sign of the phasmid.

Trap Location #2

Players can now go right back to the trap Morell just laid down behind the Feld Electrical building. While inspecting this trap players will notice Morell and his assistant are gone. They have moved on to the Whirling in Rags.

Trap Location #3

This trap is situated on the northeastern fork of the coast at Land's End. To get there players need to follow the path between the church and the boardwalk. Follow the path past the unopenable door to find the trap located in front of the old radio tower.

Trap Location #4

The final trap location is in between the canal and the crashed motor carriage. Return to the canal crossing to find it.

Return to Lena

Visit the Whirling In Rags again to see that Morell has made it back. Speaking to Lena will complete the task and reward players with the Eight-Eyed Teratorn Tie.
