On July 31, Discord announced that members of the Xbox Insiders program now have access to new features, with global availability to follow in a subsequent update for all users. Firstly, the Xbox friends list will now include Discord friends who are gaming and chatting in voice calls under a "Happening now" section. From this list, users may enter a Discord voice channel, watch a friend stream a game, or start a call directly from their Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S console. As a result, the Discord experience will be more streamlined on Xbox consoles going forward.

Discord Brings Two New Features to Xbox Consoles

  • Users may now view Discord streams directly from their Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

The second new feature lets Xbox gamers view Discord streams directly from their console. To watch a Discord stream, gamers may open their member list within the Xbox guide, select someone's profile, and select the "Watch Stream" option. Once selected, the Discord stream will be shown in full-screen for gamers to enjoy. Mute and volume options are also present.

Discord notes that the main goal of these new features is to remove the need for a smartphone or secondary device while using Discord on Xbox platforms. Since players will be able to browse Discord friends' activities and join directly from the console, they will spend less time checking Discord while playing their favorite games on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Xbox Insiders regularly receive updates before a global rollout, so those wanting to experience what could be next for the Xbox UI may sign up by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub app on consoles and Windows. The Xbox Insider Twitter account tweets out notices about upcoming alpha updates as well, and Xbox encourages users to send their feedback in order to make updates and integrated apps like Discord even better.
