In Disney Dreamlight Valley, players will need their Royal Tools to complete almost every single quest or task in the game. The Royal Pickaxe is an incredibly important one of the Royal Tools, as it allows players to mine rock spots and boulders found throughout the valley. At first, this is mostly useful for gathering stone and clearing out the Plaza, but players will quickly discover that it can be used to get Gemstones needed for crafting, quest completion, or selling. The many uses of the Royal Pickaxe don't stop here, however, as it can be upgraded to make it even more useful.
There are two major upgrades for the Royal Pickaxe in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and each one allows it to break a new type of obstruction. In order to complete certain quests and fully explore the valley, players may want to get their pickaxe upgraded as quickly as possible. Each upgrade comes from a specific character's friendship quest.
How to Break Sea Debris (Blue Rocks) on Dazzle Beach
More likely than not, the blue rocks on Dazzle Beach are the first obstruction players will run into. The Royal Pickaxe is not strong enough to break them, so players will need the help of a Demi-god. The first Pickaxe upgrade comes as part of the quest to get Moana from her realm.
Get to the part where Maui quizzes the player on himself, and he will upgrade the pickaxe to allow it to break small blue rocks. In order to break large blue rocks on Dazzle Beach, get Maui to level 4 and do his friendship quest titled "A Tale of Stone and Fire."
How to Break Magic Ice in the Forest of Valor and Frosted Heights

Continuing on their adventure, players will find themselves unable to break ice with their Royal Pickaxe in the Forest of Valor and the Frosted Heights. To break the small Ice Rocks, players will need to rescue Elsa and then complete her first quest in the village, appropriately titled "Breaking the Ice." Unfortunately, the large ice rocks will still stand in the way until players get Elsa to friendship level six. Complete her level six quest entitled "The Singing Ice," and players will have a fully upgraded pickaxe.
Now nothing in the Valley can withstand the power of the Royal Pickaxe, for now at least. Disney Dreamlight Valley is still in early access, so it's possible that new content will add more breakables that require yet more pickaxe upgrades. Until that time, enjoy the freedom that comes with clearing sea debris and ice from the village.
