Once Jack Skellington settles into the Valley, players have the opportunity to strengthen their bond with him. This can be achieved through daily conversations, gifting him his favorite items, and preparing him meals at Chez Remy, because even a skeleton man has to eat. These interactions are crucial as they enhance the player's Friendship level with Jack, paving the way for new quests and rewards.

Among these quests is "The Scientific Method," which becomes available after reaching Friendship Level 4 with Jack. Here’s how players can start and complete this quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
How to Start the Quest “The Scientific Method”
The quest "The Scientific Method" becomes available once the player achieves Friendship Level 4 with Jack Skellington. Additionally, to access the quest's key location, a hidden room within the Vitalys Mine, the player must have completed Simba's "Seed of Memories" quest, unlocked at Friendship Level 4 with the Lion King. Once the player has met both of these requirements, Jack will offer the quest, “The Scientific Method.”
How to Complete the Quest “The Scientific Method”
Jack Skellington, the iconic Pumpkin King, is gearing up for an exciting new project in Dreamlight Valley. He's set his sights on Vitalys Mine as the perfect location for a laboratory and requires the player’s assistance to make this vision a reality. The player’s mission involves gathering essential supplies and delving into the realm of Dreamlight magic alongside Jack.
Craft the Scientific Kit
Head to the Vitalys Mine and meet up with Jack, who explains his plan and requests the player’s assistance in crafting a Scientific Kit needed to set up his laboratory. To craft the Scientific Kit, the player must collect the following materials:
- 12 Softwood
- Eight Coal Ore
- Four Empty Vial
- Three Fabric
- Three Iron Ingot
Once the player has collected these materials, head to a crafting station and create the Scientific Kit, then head back to Jack and hand it over.

Collect Night Shards
Jack explains that he’s very excited to explore Dreamlight's magic after learning from Merlin, and requests the player bring him Six Night Shards. Collect the Night Shards and meet Jack outside the secret room in Vitalys Mine. Hand over the Night Shards, but brace yourself – Jack’s experiment goes awry, creating a Giant Night Thorn.
Speak with Merlin & Retrieve the Potions
The player is extremely concerned about the Giant Night Thorn and decides it would be best to consult Merlin for advice on how to handle the situation. Head to Merlin and speak with him. Merlin recalls a potion that can deal with the Giant Night Thorn, but needs help recalling the right one. He asks you to retrieve four colored potions from his library: Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple. Collect these potions by interacting with sparkling items in Merlin's library.
Choose the Correct Potion
Merlin hints that the potion to counter the Night Thorn is its "perfect opposite." Upon investigating the potions in the player’s inventory, they will find it contains four named potions:
- Day’s Leaf (Yellow)
- Dawn’s Flower (Green)
- Evening’s Bark (Blue)
- Dusk’s Root (Purple)
Return to the Vitalys Mine and approach the Giant Night Thorn, then use the Day’s Leaf (Yellow) potion to dissolve the thorn. After the player successfully removes the Giant Night Thorn, they will find a Night Thorn Sprout left behind.
Collect the Thorn Sprout from the ground and hand it over to Jack. He opts to keep the sprout in his newly established lab, promising that it won't create any further issues. This completes the "The Scientific Method" quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and Jack’s next quest will unlock at Friendship Level 7.
