Disney Lorcana cards are split up into six different colors of Ink, each representing a different archetype of character. Amethyst Ink is reserved for powerful sorcerous characters, summoned objects, and magical items, making it an intriguing Ink color to be sure. Players will recognize characters like Mickey Mouse, Wayward Sorcerer and Elsa, Spirit of Winter in this Ink color, but they may be left wondering which cards from this set are the best. Being the best in Lorcana doesn't necessarily mean the most powerful, as a card's usefulness relies on its power and effects being appropriate for the cost.

For the character cards listed below, readers will find the card's name, its Ink cost, Rarity, and any special effects it has. Lorcana Character cards also will have the card's Strength (damage dealing potential), Willpower (defense or health), Lore value (how much lore it earns when questing).

Disney Lorcana Amethyst Cards - Dr. Facilier, Agent Provocateur

dr facilier agent provocateur Lorcana Card
  • Name: Dr. Facilier, Agent Provocateur
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Cost: 7 Ink
  • Strength: 4
  • Willpower: 5
  • Lore: 3
  • Effects:
    • Shift 5 - This character only costs 5 Ink if played on top of another Dr. Facilier card.
    • Into The Shadows - Returns all characters banished in a challenge to the player's hand as long as this card is in play (this card still is discarded as normal if banished).

This entry should come as no surprise to Lorcana players familiar with Amethyst decks, as Dr. Facilier, Agent Provocateur's Into The Shadows ability is simply incredible. As long as this card is in play, all other characters controlled by the player that are banished are returned to the player's hand instead of discarded. This means they can be played again next turn or added to the Inkwell. Running out of cards is a common issue for many Lorcana players, but this card will ensure that vital pieces of the player's strategy aren't lost for good.

Dr. Facilier, Agent Provocateur is even better when paired with certain other cards. White Rabbit's Pocket Watch, for example, is an item that can be used to give a character the Rush trait, allowing cards Dr. Facilier allows players to keep to be used to challenge immediately after they are played. Thanks to the Shift ability on this card, it can be played as soon as the player has five Ink available to them, so long as there's another card named Dr. Facilier in play. The best part about all this is that Dr. Facilier, Agent Provocateur is included in the Amber/Amethyst Starter Deck.

Disney Lorcana Amethyst Cards - Friends On The Other Side

Friends On The Other Side Lorcana Card
  • Name: Friends On The Other Side
  • Rarity: Common
  • Cost: 3 Ink (Free if the player exerts a character with cost 3 or more)
  • Effect: Draw two cards

Friends On The Other Side is an Amethyst Song Card with an effect that is deceivingly good, allowing players to draw two cards. One thing that isn't entirely clear until players get their hands on Lorcana is how scarce cards can be. Since players have to balance playing cards and putting them in their Inkwell, being able to draw two additional cards from Friends On The Other Side is incredibly helpful. What's more, it's relatively cheap at three Ink and can even be added to the Inkwell itself.

To make this card even better, as a Song card it can be played for free if players exert a character of cost three or more. While this means that character won't get to Quest or Challenge this turn, it frees up the Inkwell allowing players to potentially play whatever it is that they draw that very same turn. These cards will then be ready for action next turn, which is a strategy that can really catch players off guard if they are expecting their opponent to be out of cards.

Disney Lorcana Amethyst Cards - Ursula's Cauldron

Ursulas Cauldron Lorcana Card
  • Name: Ursula's Cauldron
  • Rarity: Uncommon
  • Cost: 2 Ink
  • Ability: Exert this card to view the top two cards of the deck. Place one on the top of the deck and one on the bottom.

Ursula's Cauldron is another somewhat innocuous item that may not seem too useful at first glance. By exerting this card, players can take a look at the top two cards of their deck and then return one to the top of the deck and put the other at the bottom of the deck. This gives players a unique level of control over what cards they draw, effectively always giving them two options for what card they'll draw next turn.

This card gets even better when paired with the many other card draw effects in the Amethyst set. Since it doesn't even cost any ink to activate and only costs two Ink to play, it will then provide this incredibly useful advantage for the rest of the match, or at least until an opponent destroys it somehow. The only real downside to this card is that it can't be added to the Inkwell, but beyond that it is almost always a good idea to play. Knowledge is power as they say, and Ursula's Cauldron provides the player with the knowledge and choices they need to plan their future turns.

Disney Lorcana Amethyst Cards - Olaf, Friendly Snowman

olaf friendly snowman Lorcana Card
  • Name: Olaf, Friendly Snowman
  • Rarity: Uncommon
  • Cost: 1 Ink
  • Strength: 1
  • Willpower: 3
  • Lore: 1

Including Olaf, Friendly Snowman on a list of the best Amethyst cards in Disney Lorcana's first chapter may seem like lunacy, but for the cost this card is incredibly effective. Most cost one cards have two strength, meaning it would take two separate challenges to defeat this Olaf's three Willpower. While that may not seem like a big deal, Olaf, Friendly Snowman's high health is effectively a deterrent that prevents players from challenging him at all. Even as the game progresses and more expensive cards with higher strength start to come out, it can be difficult to justify challenging Olaf, Friendly Snowman.

That means he can sit there and provide the player with a constant one Lore per turn. In a game where one Lore often means the difference between victory and defeat, this is a huge deal. When paired with Lorcana cards that can heal him or any other character with the Support ability (adds their strength to a chosen card when they quest), Olaf can actually become a very powerful card very early on.
