Many fans did not expect to see a whole new type of cards in Disney Lorcana with the Archazia's Island set, which added Dual-Ink cards into the mix, and 2025 is very much not over in terms of surprises. After a successful launch for Archazia's Island and with the Reign of Jafar set coming in a month, all eyes are set on the future of the game when it comes to new cards, features, and such. Lorcana's future seems bright, and part of that is due to the way Ravensburger is shaking up the core foundations of the TCG in September, when the Fabled set comes out.
Fabled's "Welcome to the story" tagline initially made some fans believe the set would mark a major new chapter in Lorcana's lore, and while that is not off the table, there's a lot more to discover with the ninth expansion for the game. Fabled will add plenty of new Lorcana cards to the mix, but it's the vast array of changes and new features that will make it a massive addition to the game. The Best War Games participated in a preview event dedicated to Fabled and the future of Lorcana, and there is a lot that players should look forward to.

Every New Feature Confirmed For Disney Lorcana's Fabled Set
Quite a lot is changing with the release of Lorcana's Fabled expansion in September 2025, from the gameplay loop to the portion that has to do with collecting cards. The main changes coming to the game with Fabled are the following:
- Two new rarity types: Lorcana will feature two new rarities called Epic and Iconic. Epic is more common than Enchanted but less common than Legendary, and Iconic is the rarest overall. Epic has no new art, but the card's frame is different, and it has a dedicated foil treatment. Iconic cards have a full art treatment and a custom lore star pattern. Iconic cards are limited to 2 in this set, and they're dedicated to Mickey and Minnie Mouse, with the art matching that of the Fabled promotional image.
- Reprints of older cards: Over half of the Fabled set is made of reprinted Lorcana cards, including new Enchanted versions of popular cards from the early sets, such as Winnie the Pooh - Hunny Wizard. Cards will be reprinted from the first four sets: The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn, Into The Inklands, and Ursula's Return.
- New IPs are joining Lorcana: A Goofy Movie is being added to the game with new cards, but no details are currently available.
Lorcana's Fabled Comes With a Classic TCG Catch
Fabled will introduce the concept of set rotation to Disney Lorcana, meaning that this set (the ninth overall) will also mark the departure of sets from 1 to 4 from the Core Constructed format in terms of legality. This doesn't mean that all cards from those sets will be unavailable, considering many of them will be reprinted, but only the reprinted ones will be legal to play. Set rotation is not uncommon for TCGs, and it's yet another trait shared between Lorcana and Magic: The Gathering or other big card-collecting games that have been around for a long time.
It's worth noting that all versions of a reprinted card, even past ones, will be eligible for legality in Constructed, not just the Fabled version of that card.
The removal of many Disney Lorcana cards from the pool of legal ones in Core Constructed can be a big hit to deckbuilding potential, especially in the beginning. However, it will also be a nice opportunity to "start fresh" in a new meta end environment, possibly avoiding issues like Lorcana's ban of Hiram Flaversham - Toymaker and Fortisphere.
Cards like Lorcana's Rapunzel - Gifted with Healing may either become more easily attainable or become much less valuable due to the removal from Core Constructed. Yet, for those who would still like to play all the cards they have collected, Lorcana will introduce the new Constructed Infinity format. Here, players will have no limitations on the cards they can use except for the format's own ban list, which is separate from that of regular Core Constructed. Also, Core Constructed is going to be the main format at all official Lorcana tournaments.
All these changes will completely change the state of Lorcana in 2025, and players will have quite a lot of adjusting to do in order to prepare for set rotation, new rarities, different formats, and reprints. More details will likely be shared in the coming weeks, and it will be especially interesting to see which meta cards will be on the chopping block when Fabled comes out.
