This behemoth of an RPG has enough content to keep players engaged for hundreds of hours, but this playtime can balloon further with mods.

This game has a few issues, but well-made mods put Original Sin 2 on another level of quality entirely. Here are several Divinity: Original Sin 2 mods that make the game even better.

Updated on February 22, 2025, by Mati Kent-Nye: People who were lucky enough to experience the brilliance of Divinity: Original Sin 2 understand why the resurgence of the CRPG genre it brought was hailed by the masses. Without this game, Baldur's Gate 3 would not be the beloved revolutionary RPG it is today. After all, it is on the shoulders of Divinity 2 that Larian built Baldur's Gate 3, emulating what it did well while fixing story and pacing issues that served as minor problems in an otherwise perfect game. Whether players are getting into this title for the first time or clocking in another 100+ hour playthrough, these mods are sure to give them some more content to sink their teeth into.

25 Let There Be Tooltips - Definitive Edition

Expanded Tooltips

Few mechanics are as helpful as Divinity: Original Sin 2's toggleable tooltips. Too often, RPGs rely on players finding lootable containers without guidance. While an organic way to go about adventuring, players are all but guaranteed to miss powerful treasures, curious secrets, and important quest items.

This mod is a must-have for treasure goblins and hoarders alike, ensuring they can get their hands on even the most secretive of nooks and crannies. After all, players never know when a new item will come in handy.

24 Unique Loot Drops

More Unique Items

Character holding two unique items

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a game that is pretty loot-driven, with inventory management being a downright pain to deal with at times. Still, it's all worth it when players find a particularly useful piece of loot that helps them deal with enemies that could usually give them a tough time otherwise.

With this mod, the number of unique items in the game is increased by quite a lot. Suffice it to say, players will love the idea of exploring the world and finding a wealth of well-balanced pieces of equipment that help them deck out all their party members in the best equipment possible, increasing one's chance of laying waste to any foe who dares to stand in their way.

23 Full Loot

Merchants Have Their Goods On Them

At a glance, it's easy to see why most merchants don't drop everything they own when a player unceremoniously finishes them off. This can potentially break the balance of the game since all players need to do is kill the owners of certain skill books and powerful pieces of equipment to make things easier for themselves in the long run.

Still, it can be somewhat immersion-breaking that these merchants have none of the items they were peddling to players before their death. This changes with the advent of the Full Loot mod, which ensures that merchants who have been struck down die with all their wares in their possession, allowing players to loot their bodies and obtain every single item without too much of a fuss.

22 The Cheat Commander

Gain Access To Cheats

Players who have finished Divinity: Original Sin 2 multiple times may find the grind in each playthrough to be a bit too much to handle. Sometimes, players just want access to the fanciest toys without having to waste too much time trying to respec their build or ensuring that they are investing every point wisely.

Character Creation Plus
Divinity: Original Sin 2 – 8 Best Character Mods

These fantastic mods for Divinity: Original Sin 2 are perfect for players who want to enhance the game characters a little more.

The Cheat Commander is a simple mod that lets players allocate stats without wasting any time, and that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what this mod can accomplish. Gold, experience, levels, gear, and everything else along the same lines can be generated by this mod, making things easier for those who don't want to punish themselves for trying to accomplish the same tasks over and over again.

21 Interesting Uniques

Unique Items Have Unique Effects

Unique gear should be something that players look forward to, featuring increased stats and huge bonuses that can help them tackle insurmountable odds and come out victorious. However, most of the unique gear in Original Sin 2 ends up being something that players equip for a few hours before moving on to something bigger and flashier.

This mod aims to make each unique item in the game all the more viable, incentivizing people to equip them whenever they get their hands on a particular specimen. Players don't have to be disappointed by a unique item with basic attribute bonuses since the vast majority of items have a special effect attached to them now, too.

20 Infinity Spirit Vision

Spirit Vision Stays Active Once Turned On

Ghost appearing while spirit vision is active

Spirit Vision is one of the most important abilities a player can use to uncover hidden quests, talk to spirits that have passed on, and uncover any hidden information that will help them understand the lore of the world even more. Unfortunately, this skill needs to be activated every single time, and the instances of its use aren't always that obvious.

This can cause players to miss entertaining encounters and puzzle solutions, which can become pretty grating after a point. Thankfully, with the Infinity Spirit Vision mod, players don't have to manually trigger this power every single time, which will save them the headache of wondering if they've missed out on a ghostly encounter because they forgot to turn Spirit Vision on.

Divinity’s bartering system is solid overall, but it does have one endlessly frustrating issue: the barter and persuasion skills used are character-dependent. That means if a player accidentally makes a trade with a non-bartering specialized character, they can kiss all their extra money and bartering bonuses goodbye.

With this mod, the party now shares the highest barter and persuasion skills when trading, regardless of the character chosen. No more setting up complex trades only to have to scrap it all and start again because the wrong character was selected.

18 Epic Encounters: Origins

Completely Overhauls Gameplay

Epic Encounters Mod

Epic Encounters: Origins is arguably the most ambitious, comprehensive overhaul mod one can find for Divinity: Original Sin 2. The number of changes here is staggering, ranging from balance tweaks to the addition of new progression systems. Covering all of them would warrant an article on its own!

Veterans who can't stand Divinity's combat balance need to give this mod a try. It does an excellent job of shifting Original Sin 2's combat to a more tactical turn-based RPG than what Larian accomplished. Its Ascension system is also expertly done, granting the addictive character progression and build diversity seen in ARPGs without taking away from Original Sin 2's CRPG roots.

Epic Encounters: Origins is only available through the developer's Discord server due to the mod's in-development state. A link can be found here. Head to the #download tab to find a download link, and be sure to read the FAQ before installing it.

17 8 AP (Definitive Edition)

Increases Character AP

Player fighting in fiery battle with 8 AP per character

Action Points govern all the actions a character can perform during their turn in Divinity: Original Sin 2. Maintaining a decent store of AP is important to ensure that players can whip out the techniques they want during their turn without being completely overwhelmed by their opponents. However, despite how well-balanced the game is, there are times when players may feel that the vanilla 6 AP is so low that they can't get anything done.

Thankfully, players can opt for the 8 AP mod instead, increasing this limit quite a bit and allowing them to be less stingy about using up their AP during every turn. While some people may argue that the game itself has an option for the same, enabling that form of 8 AP leads to achievements being disabled, which may not be ideal for some players who want to enjoy the best of both worlds.

16 Necromancy Rebalanced 2.0

Reworks Necromancy

Characters talking to the Unead Ferryman in Divinity: Original Sin 2

Divinity: Original Sin 2 allows for a wide range of builds that are all viable for all but the hardest content. Well, everything except for Necromancy. This school of magic is pitifully weak when compared to other archetypes.

Necromancy Rebalanced 2.0 aims to address this, overhauling the existing skills while adding new ones to allow for more playstyle choices. Players can finally become an army of the undead with this mod's host of new summon abilities.
