Lockpicks are one of the key items players always need to have handy in Divinity: Original Sin 2 because you never know when you might need to unlock a chest to get to the valuables inside or free a prisoner locked in a cell.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 - How to Remove Source Collar

The source collar is a pesky device that stops players from using the source in Divinity: Original Sin 2. Here's how to remove it.

Players are free to purchase Lockpicks from the local vendors, but gold is a precious resource that's much better spent on upgrading equipment and buying Skill Books. Luckily, there are multiple ways to craft Lockpicks of your own. Here's how.

Undead characters, like Fane, can pick locks using their bony fingers; no lockpicks are needed!

How to Craft Lockpicks in Divinity: Original Sin 2

Lockpicks can be made using three different recipes in DOS2. Here are the details:

Key

The best Lockpick recipe, at least in the early game, is Any Hammer + Nail, mainly because both components are very easy to come by and become available as early as Fort Joy. Not only is this the fastest way to make Lockpicks, but Repair Hammers can be used in lieu of a Hammer as one of the main components of the recipe. Repair Hammer is a permanent item that is not consumed in the lockpick-making process and has infinite durability, allowing it to be reused over and over.

How to Get Repair Hammer

Repair Hammers can be found fairly easily in DOS2. Here are the easiest ways to get them.

  • Can be looted from an NPC named Needle located in the Griff's Camp Kitchen in Fort Joy.
  • Can be bought from Nebora, the blacksmith in Fort Joy.
  • Can be found as random loot in containers.

How to Get Nails

Nails can very easily be found in the overworld, even in Fort Joy. You'll find a huge cache of them around Nebora's Blacksmith shop and many more scattered throughout the rest of the world. To find them, hold the 'Show World Tooltips' hotkey to highlight all visible items. If there is a Nail around, you'll know immediately. Nails are also sold by certain vendors, but since they're such a common item, it's rarely advisable to buy them directly.

Lockpicks are only consumed on successful attempts.

Alternate Option: Gift Bag - Crafter's Kit

Larian Studios has offered players a method of reducing Divinity: Original Sin 2's difficulty by adding QoL features to the game in the form of Gift Bags. Gift Bags are essentially built-in mods for the game that can be toggled on or off individually at the player's discretion. One of these Gift Bags is called Crafter's Kit, an incredibly handy tool that adds a bunch of new recipes to make item crafting much, much easier.

How to Enable Gift Bag - Crafter's Kit

  1. Open the pause menu.
  2. Select 'Gift Bag Features.'
  3. Scroll down and check the box in front of Crafter's Kit.

Now, the Crafter's Kit has been added to the game but to use it, you'll first need to craft it. Here's the recipe:
