Dragon Age: Inquisition assigned tarot cards to all the companion characters, and it also assigned cards to the Inquisition's advisors. Cullen, Josephine, and Leliana each have their own tarot card, though their cards do not change over time like the companions' cards to. They remain stagnant, though that does not mean these characters don't also go through great change.

Cullen's tarot card is the Knight of Swords, Josephine is the Queen of Coins, and Leliana is the Queen of Swords. All three are face cards, which is symbolic of their level of authority. The cards resemble their strategies at the war table, from Cullen's might to Josephine's diplomacy. The cards can also symbolize their ongoing problems, from Leliana's isolation to Cullen's lyrium addiction.

Cullen's Tarot Card

Cullen's tarot card.

The Knight of Swords is a card of ambition, drive, and action, which can mean that once a mission is set, there is no stopping until the mission succeeds. The suit of swords is one of the mind, which means that Cullen is a man who is more than just muscle. He is a strategist, and really shows that on the battlefield as well as through hobbies like playing chess. He thrives on high energy and is not afraid to make the first move in a fight, which relates to many of his strategies at the war table often involving the military. It is worth noting another character in the swords suit is Iron Bull if the Chargers are sacrificed.

This card is more than just about Cullen's abilities that serve the Inquisition, it can also relate to his battle with lyrium addiction. As the swords suit is connected to the power of the mind, it shows the need for Cullen's mental discipline throughout Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Josephine's Tarot Card

Josephine's tarot card.

The Queen of Coins is a very fitting card for Josephine, as it symbolizes practicality, nurture, and providing financially. Josephine is all this, as she moves money in the Inquisition. She is not afraid to solve problems with money or connections with other people and organizations. Between Cullen and Leliana, she is also the most nurturing advisor - one who builds bridges instead of breaks them. Other characters that have cards in the coins suit are Varric and Hawke.

The suit of coins is connected to the earth element, showcasing Josephine's stability, and it is also associated with the material world in matters like family, career, health, and money. The card shows a balance between family and work, and the importance of having a stable income, but it can mean that Josephine struggles with self-care; caring so much about others that she forgets to take time for herself. Iron Bull also has a coins suit card for his romance.

Leliana's Tarot Card

Leliana's tarot card.

Leliana's tarot card shares the same suit as Cullens. Being the Queen of Swords, she is greatly connected to her independence, keeping clear boundaries and offering unbiased judgment. Being of the swords like Cullen, Leliana is a woman who often uses her powers of intellect to help the Inquisition. It can also symbolize her being divorced from her emotions, caring more about the truth than sentimentality. Her war table mission ideas can be brutal, but they get the job done.

In reverse, the card connects a lot with Leliana's struggles during Inquisition and represent being cold-hearted. She may be so driven by intellect and truth that she loses connections with her heart. A reverse Queen of Swords can signify a lack of passion and the possibility of isolation from others, and Leliana can become this way depending on the player's choices with her.
