Summary

  • Blood Dragon Armor will appear in Dragon Age: The Veilguard as a cosmetic.
  • Fans pre-ordering the game will snag the classic armor set, which first appeared in Dragon Age: Origins in 2009.
  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released on October 31, almost a decade after Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Blood Dragon Armor, first appearing in Dragon Age: Origins back in 2009, will return in Dragon Age: The Veilguard as a bonus for players who pre-order the game. The recently revealed Halloween release date for Dragon Age: The Veilguard is getting the franchise's fanbase excited, and the ability to pick up this classic armor set is triggering some people's nostalgia.

The first two games in the series, Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2, both included a Blood Dragon armor set, though some players may have been unable to get their hands on it. In the first game, a one-time redeemable code for the armor was packaged with new copies of the game, and it was also included in the title's Ultimate Edition. A nearly identical outfit was included in DLC for Dragon Age 2, but to unlock it, players already had to own Blood Dragon Armor in Origins or Mass Effect 2. The armor set was not included in Dragon Age: Inquisition, but with the next Dragon Age game releasing on October 31, that tradition is soon to be reinstated.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Reveals $220 Collector's Edition

BioWare reveals the official Collector's Edition of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which will cost $220 and come with some unique items.

The release date announcement for Dragon Age: The Veilguard came on August 15 in the form of a new trailer, which provided some new details on the threat that will be facing the Tevinter Imperium and unveiled the return of fan-favorite character Morrigan. The announcement of the Blood Dragon Armor as a pre-order bonus comes at the end of the video, and it appears that the cosmetic will take on different appearances depending on the character on whom it is equipped. The still image at the end of the trailer shows off three distinctly different styles, all sporting the armor's classic red-and-silver motif.

Blood Dragon Armor Returns In Dragon Age: The Veilguard

While the armor pays homage to older Dragon Age games, the Blood Dragon Armor promoted for The Veilguard is being listed as a cosmetic, meaning it will likely outwardly replace the armor a character is receiving stat bonuses from, but will provide no bonuses on its own. This marks a departure from its previous appearances in the franchise, as the set in Origins provided big boosts to strength, willpower, and health, but came with some hefty stat requirements to equip. Conversely, Blood Dragon Armor in Dragon Age 2 didn't offer as many bonuses but had much lower requirements, making it a great early-game option.

Even as a cosmetic, plenty of fans are excited to don the classic armor again. There have been plenty of iconic outfits and clothing options in Dragon Age games, from Cole's oversized hat to the Inquisitor's infamous pajama-like casual clothes in the most recent entry, but few have the legacy that the Blood Dragon Armo r carries.
