Summary

  • Dragon Age: The Veilguard requires 92.7 GB of space on Xbox Series X/S.
  • For comparison, the previous game, Dragon Age: Inquisition was nearly half that size.
  • Players can expect 40-100 hours of hand-crafted gameplay with a mission-based structure.

The upcoming action RPG Dragon Age: The Veilguard will take up around 93 GB of space on Xbox Series X/S consoles, pre-release downloads have confirmed. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to launch on October 31.

Seen by many fans as a potential return to form for BioWare following the troubled releases of Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, the next Dragon Age title will be the fourth major entry in the beloved fantasy series. Early previews of Dragon Age: The Veilguard have highlighted its enhanced character creator, reworked combat system, and modern visuals, among other things. All these changes and improvements seemingly come at a heavy cost, however, as the soon-to-release game is nearly twice as large as its predecessor, at least on Microsoft's consoles.

Xbox Series X/S owners can now preload Dragon Age: The Veilguard ahead of its launch if they can free up 92.7 GB on their drives. For context, the series' last entry, Dragon Age: Inquisition from 2014, takes up around 46 GB of space, according to its Xbox store listing. With its current preload size, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is comparable to some of the biggest games on the market like Destiny 2.

A full playthrough of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which is mission-based instead of being an open-world adventure, should take between 40 and 100 hours, BioWare developers have estimated. Game Director Corinne Busche previously claimed that every part of the title was hand-crafted and heavily curated to provide players with the best possible narrative and moment-to-moment experiences. She also noted that the game would have branching paths, mysteries, secrets, and optional content for people to find.

Those who want to focus on the narrative of BioWare's upcoming RPG can opt to play on its easiest difficulty, Storyteller. Dragon Age: The Veilguard also features accessibility options related to audio, visuals, controls, and gameplay that can make the title more accommodating for people with disabilities. Accessibility SFX, for example, will give players additional audio feedback for visual mechanics like incoming attacks.

BioWare and Electronic Arts supposedly canceled the fourth mainline Dragon Age game in 2017 out of concern that it would not be able to implement a live-service component, but work on what would become Dragon Age: The Veilguard was restarted a year later. The revived project was intended to feature multiplayer elements, but both BioWare and EA ultimately chose not to add these in the wake of Anthem's failure, according to a report by Bloomberg News.
