BioWare has revealed that the script for Dragon Age: The Veilguard contains about 140,000 lines of recorded dialogue, surpassing the 88,000 lines of Dragon Age: Inquisition, which was already considered BioWare's most verbose game to date. According to the developer, the cast has been working on Dragon Age: The Veilguard for five years, and recording the script takes a lot of time.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard began development shortly after Dragon Age: Inquisition's release in 2014 and has gone through several reboots along the way. One of the original ideas was to include more multiplayer elements in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but those were eventually scrapped. Now, with a release closer than ever, slated for fall 2024, the game is revealing new details about its gameplay, narrative, and universe, including the main cast of characters.

In an interview with GameRadar+, creative performance director Ashley Barlow mentioned that Dragon Age: The Veilguard features 700 characters and 140,000 recorded lines of dialogue. Joining her was creative director John Epler, who emphasized how BioWare has spent a great deal of time ensuring the voice acting and narrative are top-notch and that they "wanted to make sure we got this one right." Barlow added that the Dragon Age: The Veilguard casting began five years ago, suggesting the voice actors have been recording their lines for quite a while.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard's Script is Massive

Barlow mentioned that out of the 140,000 lines of dialogue, 60,000 are specifically for Rook, the protagonist. Dragon Age: The Veilguard's Rook will have four voice actors in total, two for the character's female voices and two for the male voices. In the game, Rook will have 15,000 unique lines of dialogue, quadrupling when considering the four variations. John Epler asserts that Dragon Age: The Veilguard is "the best version" a Dragon Age game could possibly be.

A script of this size suggests that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will offer a rich and content-packed story. The RPG is a direct continuation of Dragon Age: Inquisition, and when it was first revealed, its title was Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Dreadwolf referred to the elven mage Solas, a companion in Inquisition. However, BioWare announced a title change to Dragon Age: The Veilguard this year, shifting the spotlight from the villain to the protagonist.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released this fall for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Recently, BioWare confirmed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard is Steam Deck-verified and that no EA app will be needed to play it.
