Rook will have the fate of many characters left in their hands in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which means the decisions they make will have implications on the lives of many. This becomes abundantly clear in one of the early missions of the game, whereby they are left with the difficult decision of determining the fate of D'Meta's Mayor.

While this isn't a significant decision and doesn't have any major impact on the overarching story in The Veilguard, there are some points to consider before determining the best course of action. With this in mind, deciding on whether to save or leave the Mayor in Dragon Age: The Veilguard should take the following parameters into consideration.

Should You Save or Leave The Mayor in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

Rook deciding whether to save or leave the Mayor in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

One of the first burning questions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard is whether you should save the Mayoor, which is a decision that has two major implications in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The first of these relates to which members of your party approve of your actions, and the other one relates to whether players are able to participate in a bonus side quest or not.

In general, however, there does not appear to be any significant implications for the storyline, so you can make this decision without being too concerned about any long-term consequences. Below you will find how your decision will impact on your relationship with specific party members.

What Happens If You Save The Mayor?

If you opt to save the mayor, this will be met with some protest from Bellara, who points out that the Mayor is responsible for the deaths of almost every villager in D'Meta. After choosing to save him, the Mayor will offer some advice to the party, but none of it is of any substance.

Making the decision to save the mayor will be approved of by Neve, which will give you an advantage if you wish to romance her, but disapproved of by Harding and Bellara. Outside of that, it doesn't affect the story, but it will deny players the opportunity to participate in another side quest later on.

What Happens If You Leave The Mayor?

In contrast, players will be met with the opposite reaction if they decide to leave the Mayor to his fate at the hands of the Blight. Bellara and Harding will approve of this action, whereas Neve will be against it, pointing out that he wasn't completely in control of his actions and was under the influence of the gods.

If you choose the Grey Wardens as your faction, there will be a third choice that involves banishing him to the faction. This will have the same outcome as saving the Mayor, except that Neve will greatly approve of the decision.

In addition to the approval changes, players will also have an additional side quest later in the game. If he is left to the Blight, the Mayor will become a powerful boss-like creature that you will need to slay as part of the A Growing Corruption quest. It's not essential to the main story, but it will, of course, offer players an additional opportunity to level up their character and improve the synergy with their party members.

With both consequences considered, we would recommend leaving the Mayor to his fate. Unless you want to fast-track a romance with Neve, the approval rating can be recovered, and it is better overall to have the approval of two characters instead of one, as well as the extra content that comes with another side quest. Overall, though, there's no right or wrong answer, so go with your gut.
