Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the next RPG in the Dragon Age franchise and a game that many players have been waiting years for. While some players have been looking forward to the continuation and a further explanation of the plans of Solas from Dragon Age: Inquisition, others have been looking forward to the new companions the player has been introduced to, especially the new romances.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Reasons To Save Minrathous
These are the reasons why a player should decide to save Minrathous while leaving Treviso to become Blighted in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Out of the seven available romances in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Emmrich, the gentleman Necromancer, is one of the characters that has been romanced the least. It's a surprise to see that so few players have romanced this option, especially as Emmrich arguably has one of the greatest romances in the game. These are some reasons why a player should give Emmrich a chance at love with their Rook.
8 The Kindest Man In The Game
Even With Everyone Being Nice, Emmrich Is The Nicest
There is little tension to be seen in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, as Rook – the main character – appears to get along with every member of the Veilguard team, including the companion that ends up Hardened.
However, even with this in mind, Emmrich is still incredibly kinder than any other companion in the Veilguard, as this older man is shown to be incredibly thoughtful about not only the other members of the Veilguard but also Rook. Players are sure to find themselves smiling at how caring Emmrich is, even when they aren't romancing him, though this kindness definitely deserves a chance to become something deeper.
7 Coffins May Be Involved Romantically
Emmrich Must Keep To The Necromancer Brand
While Emmrich's romance has been described by the game director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Corinne Busche, as “intimate” and “sensual”, the Necromancer still has his quirky moments within the game that reminds players that this is a man that is mostly comfortable when surrounded by corpses.
Without spoiling the incredible Emmrich romance, players can expect a coffin to make an appearance at some point during the courting between Rook and Emmrich. That can surprisingly be quite a sweet moment, even if it's a peculiar place for the players to find themselves.
6 Players Can Become A Skeleton Parent
Manfred Is The Greatest Son In The Whole World
One of the many perks of getting with Emmrich is the player also having possession of his skeleton assistant, Manfred. Many of the moments involving Emmrich also involve Manfred in some way, as players admire how impressed by Manfred Emmrich is.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard - NPCs Who Should’ve Been Romanceable
Dragon Age: The Veilguard features seven characters that players can pursue romantically, but it would've been nice if more options were available.
Although Emmrich does attempt to deny the father figure role he has over Manfred, one of the player's flirting options, while romancing Emmrich, points out that Manfred is like their skeleton son that they must look after together. However, it is probably best to not question how old some of those bones may be.
5 An Older Romance Means More Experience
This Necromancer Was Made For The Old Man Lovers
Throughout all the Dragon Ag e games across the franchise, there have been few romance options that have been on the much older side. While Solas is technically hundreds of years old, the player isn't aware of this being the case and, therefore, Emmrich is the first time Dragon Age has seen an older romance option for players to experiment with.
While players can design their Rook to be a similar age to Emmrich, the romance between the player and Emmrich does discuss heavily an age gap between the two. Although some players may not enjoy this, the game approaches it in an interesting way that works surprisingly well with Emmrich's companion quest line, which also reveals the experience Emmrich has had in the past.
4 There are Some Unique Romance Scenes
Players Will Get scenes They Wouldn't See Otherwise
Emmrich's romance is one of the few in the game that gets added content for his romance. Therefore, unlike the other companions available, a player that romances, this character will get even more unique scenes with their lover. These are moments a player would never even experience if they didn't give the necromancer a chance with one of their Rooks.
These extra scenes are incredibly thoughtful and have left many players who have experienced Emmrich's romance wishing that the other available characters in the game had something similar. Sitting down for a romantic meal is only one of the few thoughtful scenes that players need to see between Emmrich and their Rook.
3 Great For Those That Enjoy Openly Romantic Characters
Rook's Name Has Officially Been Changed To Dearest
Players who enjoy romance where the love interest exclaims their affections constantly should be certain to romance Emmrich as he is one of the few options in Dragon Age: The Veilguard that still uses pet names to show their love for the character.
Players will constantly be called darling or dearest, not only during romance scenes with Emmrich but even in the various battle dialogue that occurs while the player finds themselves fighting enemies. Emmrich has plenty of praise to give as he constantly congratulates his lover as they finish off enemies, with the praises sounding romantic.
2 Emmrich Isn't Like Other Necromancers
He Has A Deep Respect For The Dead
If it wasn't already obvious, Emmrich is unlike the usual Necromancer seen in an RPG. He isn't trying to take over the world with the undead, or trying to scare people with dead bodies, Emmrich is a thoughtful man that simply has a passion for his craft of Necromancy as a resident of Nevarra and a member of the Mourn Watch.
Even if a player doesn't enjoy necromancers or necromancy, Emmrich deserves a chance as he isn't simply controlling the dead against their will, but instead appreciates doing the respectful ceremonies and finds peace when talking to the dead.
1 His Romance And Companion Quest Goes Hand-In-Hand
Players Can Explore Death And Immortality Together
Emmrich's companion quest line explores his fear of dying and his goal of eventually becoming a Lich so that he may avoid death entirely. With a player trying to romance Emmrich, this can be an interesting theme to explore, and something the player is able to comment on while romancing him while encountering these obstacles.
From Emmrich's fear of dying before Rook does, to Rook being unsure about staying with a man that is immortal, as Rook will likely die either way. This is an interesting matter that the writers of Dragon Age: The Veilguard have created, and certainly one a player should experience for themselves.
