Romance is a massive draw for many Dragon Age fans, and all seven of Dragon Age: The Veilguard's companions are available to be romanced. One of the first characters the player character, Rook, will encounter is Neve Gallus, who plays a pivotal role in helping the group track down Solas right from the very first story beats of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

This article contains spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Neve is the second companion that players encounter in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. She's a mage who works as a private detective in Minrathous and lives in Docktown, one of Minrathous' poorest neighborhoods. As a free mage, Neve works to better Minrathous and is a member of the Shadow Dragons, an organization that frees slaves. Neve's strong convictions, sharp intelligence, and shady past with a possible connection to the Venatori make her a multi-faceted character, and a great match for any Rook willing to stand with her in reshaping Tevinter for the better.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Where You May Have Seen Solas' Lyrium Dagger Before

Solas' lyrium dagger first appears in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but fans of Dragon Age may feel like there's something familiar about it.

Neve's Story Began Years Before Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Neve has an advantage over most of the other companions in that she appears in several of Dragon Age' s spin-off media that were released before Dragon Age: The Veilguard, namely the anthology of short stories Dragon Age: Tevinter Nights, and Dragon Age: The Missing. Both these appearances depict her as a no-nonsense, straightforward private investigator with a good heart, who genuinely wants to make Minrathous a better place for every group in a meaningful way. By The Missing, it's established that she's already working with the Shadow Dragons.

Neve is the second companion recruited by Rook, only just after Harding and very early in Dragon Age: The Veilguard's prologue. She is an ice mage with the ability to slow time, deliver devastating frost-based damage, and heal the player character. Neve also offers a new perspective on Tevinter. Both Dorian and Fenris were romanceable companions from Tevinter, but Fenris was a slave, while Dorian was an altus who eventually became a magister. As a mage born and raised in Minrathous, but neither a member of the Magisterium nor a slave, Neve has a unique perspective on Tevinter that hasn't been seen in a Dragon Age companion before.

Neve May Have the Strongest Connection to the Story

Another reason to romance Neve is her connection to Minrathous and the story. As Minrathous is the capital of Tevinter and the heart of its power, it's likely the city will play a major role in its story, and Neve's perspective on her home will be invaluable. Although she states in Tevinter Nights that most of her family are templars rather than mages, implying that there are few mages in her family, it's possible that she's related to Magister Gallus, who is a prominent Venatori and member of the Magisterium mentioned in Dragon Age: Inquisitio n.

Despite her disdain for the way those in power treat others in Tevinter, Neve's closest family may be involved in the group that she has spent years working to dismantle, and who have tried to kill her.

This would introduce a level of drama or angst into a romance with Rook, but those who romance her may be able to support and comfort her in ways that are unavailable to platonic relationships. As there are plenty of reasons to have Neve accompany Rook, Neve would be a great romance option among the companions available in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Although she's described as having a tough exterior that could be misinterpreted as cold, her loyalty to Minrathous, her role as a Shadow Dragon, and her devotion to uplifting the downtrodden makes her a great match for any Rook who's dedicated to helping others and saving the world.
