In the Dragon Age series, demons are spirits that have come to embody negative emotions. That's why the Mourn Watch keeps a close eye on the spirits of the Necropolis, and they need your help in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
After you recruit Emmrich, you can return to the Necropolis and speak to the Mourn Watch leaders to start a series of quests called "Hauntings." The first Hauntings quest of Dragon Age: The Veilguard is "Deathly Curiosity," and you won't have to travel far to find your target.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard - Restless Spirits Walkthrough
Emmrich in Dragon Age: The Veilguard needs you to calm a few wisps by solving puzzles, but doing so may open a door to more than you expect.
How to Beat Burgeoning Malice
You'll find the Curiosity spirit directly south of the Hollow Belfry, which is where the Mourn Watch leaders stand. If this is your first visit to the Necropolis after recruiting Emmrich, you'll need to take the northeast exit and destroy a couple of red lyrium barriers to open the south door. There's a set of Venatori cultists along the path, but you don't need to fight them as part of this quest.
Once you reach the spirit's location, the Spectral Court, you'll discover that Curiosity has already become a demon of Malice and possessed a corpse. You'll have to fight it to complete this quest. Malice is vulnerable to necrotic damage and resistant to cold, making Emmrich and Lucanis your best party members for this quest. It also has several troublesome attacks:
- Malice can fire two or three projectile attack types. Sometimes they overlap, forcing you to do nothing but dodge or block for several moments.
- Malice can cause an orb to erupt out of the ground and fire a spinning laser. You need to stay on the move to avoid this damage.
- Malice has an area attack that hits a T shape in front of it. You need to dodge back or diagonally forward to avoid it.
- Malice can also hit everyone next to it with an area attack centered on itself.
- The only attack that slows Malice down is an eruption. Nothing else will knock it down or stagger it, including the Stagger condition.
Once Burgeoning Malice goes down, it drops a chest with an item and Fade-touched crystals inside. You can now return to the Mourn Watch leaders for a reward of 400 gold, +250 Mourn Watch Strength, and access to the next Hauntings quest, "Restless Dreams." You can also stay in the Spectral Court to solve a wisp puzzle.
How to Check Relationship Status and Approval in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, it’s possible to check how companion relationship are progressing beyond pop-up messages of ‘Neve Approves.’ Here's how.
How to Solve the Spectral Court Wisp Puzzle
On the west side of the Spectral Courtroom, you can spot an orange flame. Have Emmrich use Placate Mischief on it to free a wisp. This wisp will then point to five unlit braziers in a specific order. This order is:
- The brazier in the northwest corner
- The west brazier by the entrance
- The brazier behind the central altar
- The brazier behind the east sarcophagus
- The east brazier by the entrance
If you Ignite the braziers in this specific order, the wisp will open its sarcophagus and let you take the Memento inside. If you light them in a different order, the braziers will go out and you'll have to try again. If you weren't fast enough to follow the wisp, you can use Placate Mischief again to have it repeat the sequence.
The wisp will also follow you after you solve the puzzle, and there's a place nearby where you can use it to open a door. Take the south exit from the room into the Cascades to find a wisp node to the right. Using the wisp here will open the door and give you access to a large chest. With the puzzle complete, you can now head back to the Mourn Watch for your quest reward.
