Summary

  • Dragon Ball showcases a diverse range of formidable human fighters who can compete with the best in the universe.
  • These humans possess unique skills and abilities, such as sensing ki, using specialized attacks, and displaying exceptional strength and durability.
  • Despite the disadvantage of not being Saiyans or aliens, these human fighters prove their worth and admiration in the crowded arena of Dragon Ball.

As a franchise about fighting, Dragon Ball has no shortage of characters versed in martial arts. However, many of these are Saiyans or members of some other alien race. Due to their unique biology, they're able to increase their strength and fight for far longer than their peers. This means that the human beings in this universe are at a fundamental disadvantage, but that doesn't mean that you should count them out

On the contrary, Dragon Ball has plenty of tough cookies on Earth. These home-grown humans can not only compete with the universe's best, but some of them actually surpass their extraterrestrial competition. If anything, this makes them more admirable as fighters in a crowded arena.

Updated September 21, 2023 by George Voutiritsas: The Dragon Ball franchise has been around for more than three decades, and it features one of the most iconic anime protagonists of all time. Goku is a Saiyan, but he was raised on Earth, where he became a silly and kindhearted individual. Now that he can fully utilize Ultra Instinct, he is one of the strongest characters in Universe Seven.

Growing up on Earth means that Goku spent his entire life around humans, most of whom are weaklings who cannot fly or use Ki, but a few actually possess a decent amount of skill and strength. Longtime fans have an idea who the strongest humans in Dragon Ball are, but there are a few others who deserve to be mentioned as well.

20 Bora

  • Debut Arc: Dragon Ball - Commander Red Saga
  • Most Powerful Attack: Not Revealed

Bora was a tall and muscular man who lived at the base of Korin Tower with his son Upa. Bora was one of the strongest humans in the world during Dragon Ball, as evidenced by the fact that he was able to throw both Yajirobe and Goku far above the clouds. He was also able to fight Yamcha in the Mystical Adventure movie . Bora's body could withstand a barrage of bullets from Captain Yellow's soldiers. These bullets had no effect on Bora's body, and he went on to beat all the soldiers by himself.

He may have not been able to use Ki, but Nam could still sense it. This allowed him to feel his opponent's moves, and it allowed him to counter Goku's Afterimage Technique. He could jump 40 feet into the air to perform a Cross Arm Dive attack that could knock someone out for 10 days.

18 General Blue

  • Debut Arc: Dragon Ball - General Blue Saga
  • Most Powerful Attack: Skewer!

General Blue was a high-ranking officer in the Red Ribbon Army, and the argument can be made that he was the army's strongest officer. Blue possessed superhuman strength, speed, and endurance, and he was capable of bulking up his body at will. His fight with General Tao was actually one of the best fights of the original Dragon Ball series.

Blue was a Kenpo master, and he was strong enough to beat Krillin after the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. He could not use Ki, but he was able to give young Goku trouble because he could use telekinesis to move things with his mind. His Psychic Eyes Technique allowed him to temporarily paralyze an opponent as strong as Goku.

17 Staff Officer Black

  • Debut Arc: Dragon Ball - Red Ribbon Army Saga
  • Most Powerful Attack: Black Jacket

Staff Officer Black was the final villain of the Commander Red Saga, and he later commands the remnants of the Red Ribbon Army after killing Red. It is believed that Black was the army's strongest fighter, but Goku claimed that he was weaker than Mercenary Tao.

That being said, Black was a capable hand-to-hand fighter, and he was highly proficient with firearms. The Black Jacket is his ultimate weapon, and it is an advanced bipedal mech suit. He would use it to fire rockets and destructive energy beams.

16 Mr. Satan

Mr. Satan, also known as Hercule, is a tall and muscular man who is known for his curly afro. He cannot fly unless he uses a jetpack, and he cannot use Ki blasts. That being said, he has won the World Tournament, which means that he is a competent martial artist.

He is capable of pulling up to four buses by himself, and he was able to punch through one of them. He vowed to defeat Cell, but he was quickly eliminated when Cell effortlessly knocked him away and into a mountain. Mr. Satan survived this attack, which means that his body is surprisingly durable.

15 Master Shen

  • Debut Arc: Dragon Ball - Fortuneteller Baba Saga
  • Most Powerful Attack: Tri-Beam

Master Shen is Mercenary Tao's older brother, and he developed a rivalry with Master Roshi when they were students at the Mutaito Training Academy. When they were younger, Shen and Roshi were the only students who survived a battle with the Namekian Demon Clansmen.

Shen is the man who initially trained Tien and Chiaotzu. He had a power level of 120, and he was capable of using Ki blasts. At one point, he grabbed Chiaotzu by the throat and held him with ease. He could use the Dodon Ray, and he was the one who taught Tien the Tri-Beam Technique.

14 Spopovich

Spopovich Angry At Videl During The Martial Arts Tournament In Dragon Ball Z
  • Debut Arc: Dragon Ball Z: World Tournament Saga
  • Most Powerful Attack: Crash Launcher

Spopovich fought Mr. Satan in the past and lost in embarrassing fashion, but he became a lot stronger after meeting Babidi, a wizard who manipulated him, and who gave him unnatural power. As a result, he could now fly and use Ki blasts, and he became far more aggressive and bloodthirsty.

He also gains more muscle mass, becomes bald, and acquires greyish skin. He battles Videl in the World Tournament and for the most part, he was immune to her attacks. He nearly killed her but was stopped beforehand. Babidi later blows Spopovich up when he decides that he is no longer useful.

13 Yamu

  • Debut Arc: Dragon Ball Z: World Tournament Saga
  • Most Powerful Attack: Energy Drain

Like Spopovich, Yamu served the evil wizard Babidi, and he was tasked with collecting energy at the 25th World Tournament. Unlike his ally, Yamu was more intelligent and sane, which shows that he was able to control his unnatural powers.

He stopped Spopovich from killing Videl, and when he ordered Spopovich to just throw her out of the ring, he obliged without incident, and they later absorbed Gohan's energy. When Babidi turned on them, Yamu tried to escape, but he was killed by Pui Pui, a minion who was ultimately incinerated by Vegeta.

12 Mercenary Tao

  • Debut Arc: Dragon Ball – Commander Red Saga
  • Most Powerful Attack: Super Dodon Wave

A master of the Crane martial arts, Tao is the deadliest warrior in the Red Ribbon Army. He's a ruthless assassin, and that's reflected in his fighting style. Minimal movement is involved as he mostly remains still until the moment he strikes.

This lends a deadly precision to his attacks, taking down even the mightiest targets before anyone knows what happened. That includes Goku, which is more than can be said for the rest of the Red Ribbon Army. He can also toss a wooden pole and jump on it to travel miles in a matter of minutes, which is equal parts awesome and silly. It's just a shame he lost all dignity when he became a cyborg.

11 Yajirobe

Yajirobe cuts off Vegeta's tail in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
Yajirobe Dragon Ball Z Kakarot
  • Debut Arc: Dragon Ball – King Piccolo Saga
  • Most Powerful Attack: Iaigiri

This ronin may not look like much, and he indeed would like nothing more than to laze around and eat. However, he will do whatever it takes to achieve those goals. If that means going through a demon or two, then he'll unsheathe his sword without hesitation.

From the moment Goku runs into this guy, he's a walking contradiction. He's a hefty grump, but he makes short work of Cymbal, one of Demon King Piccolo's minions. Keep in mind, these monsters previously showed themselves capable of wiping out the greatest martial artists on Earth. Yet, Yajirobe kills and eats one with no issue. Now, that's a dedication to the essentials.
