One of the biggest anime of all time is arguably Dragon Ball, which has been a huge part of the anime world since it first began airing back in 1986. The original anime, which already consisted of 153 episodes, was followed up by a sequel called Dragon Ball Z, and then Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super followed after that. However, there haven't been any new Dragon Ball anime series since 2018, when Dragon Ball Super finished - that is, until now.

The latest chapter in the Dragon Ball franchise will be Dragon Ball Daima, the first new Dragon Ball series in six years. You can bet that fans both old and new are excited about it, and waiting with anticipation for any news concerning the new series. On Wednesday, Dragon Ball fans got something particularly special. The official website for the franchise released a new trailer for the upcoming series, which included new information that had not been previously released.

What is Dragon Ball Daima?

The Newest Dragon Ball Franchise

Dragon Ball Daima is the first new Dragon Ball anime since 2018. It is set to begin airing from October 11th, 2024, but will have a special world premiere at an upcoming event at Tokyo Big Site called "Dragon Ball Daimatsuri," which combines the word "daima" from the title of the series with "matsuri," the Japanese word for "festival." AnimeNewsNetwork describes the plot of the anime as,

In the series, Goku, Vegeta, Bulma, and other characters throughout the series become younger than usual. However, this is different from a similar plotline in the Dragon Ball GT anime, in which Goku reverts back into a kid after the end of the original series. Although the title "Daima" does not mean anything, the kanji could be interpreted as "Evil" in English.

Not much more is known yet about how the story is going to play out, with very little information available anywhere online at the moment. The ambiguity of the kanji used for "daima" makes it even more mysterious, and the Dragon Ball website does little to explain more. Dragon Ball has enough loyal fans, though, that the series already knows it has an audience and doesn't have to work hard to get viewership (similar to what Studio Ghibli did with their lack of advertising for The Boy and the Heron before its release).

This new trailer and the newly released visuals are enough to get people who are already excited even more hyped. Fans have already been commenting on the English version of the page how impressed they are with the updated animation and drawing style, and appreciate that the new series is going to continue even after the death of the creator earlier this year. With only a little over a month to go before the series starts to air, the fans are already primed and ready to go.

What Do We Know About Dragon Ball Daima?

All The New Information Released This Week

Alongside an impressive trailer, the official Dragon Ball website also announced three new voice actors, a new visual, and a preview of the opening theme song. The new voice cast announced for the characters introduced in the trailer are Yumiko Kobayashi (Supreme Kai (Mini)), Koki Uchiyama (Glorio), and Fairouz Ai (Panzy). All the new voice actors were introduced on the website along with short blurbs about their excitement about working on the project. They will be joining Masako Nozawa, who is returning to voice the main character, Son Goku.

The theme song will be performed by Grammy Award-winning DJ/Producer Zedd featuring C&K. The song is called "Jaka Jaan," and the lyrics were written by Yukinojo Mori. Mori is also the writer behind other famous Dragon Ball songs like “CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA” and “Limit Break x Survivor.” The Dragon Ball website reports,

Zedd has been an outspoken fan of Dragon Ball for years and accepted the offer to create a song for Dragon Ball DAIMA. This is the first time Zedd has taken on composing the theme song for an animated work... In response to Zedd’s request for a main chorus you would expect of a Japanese anime, the singing and songwriting unit C&K brought their overwhelming vocals and genre-transcending musical sense to help compose and bring voices to the theme song! This song is a super collaboration that will mark a new page in Dragon Ball history!

Finally, the new visual, along with the trailer, shed a little bit of light onto the mystery of the plot of Dragon Ball Daima. It shows the main characters riding on a dragon alongside the words, "Welcome to the Demon Realm!", which are also in the trailer. It means that, at the very least, the new series will be set in the Demon Realm. One of the new characters, Panzy, can be seen in the image along with Son Goku himself, and a few new characters whose names have not yet been released.

According to the official website, creator Akira Toriyama worked on the concept, character designs, and story of Dragon Ball Daima, which makes it that much more special. This will be the last Dragon Ball that comes from the series' original creator, and even if the series does continue in the future, this will mark the end of an important saga in the anime world. Hopefully Dragon Ball Daima will be able to live up to everyone's expectations when it releases next month.

Dragon Ball Daima will air on October 11, 2024.
