Akira Toriyama’s Last Dragon Ball Project

Daima will be the last Dragon Ball project in which series creator Akira Toriyama had direct input, contributing heavily to the project with both its story and character designs. Toriyama released a statement teasing his involvement in the project when it was first announced at NYCC 2023:

Hello. I'm Akira Toriyama.

I'm currently working on a new Dragon Ball.

The title is "Dragon Ball DAIMA".

"DAIMA" is a made-up term, which in Japanese characters would be "大魔" or in English would be something like "Evil."

Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small.

In order to fix things, they'll head off to a new world!

It's a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world.

Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Nyoibo (Power Pole) to fight, something not seen in a long time.

I came up with the story and settings, as well as a lot of the designs.

I'm actually putting a lot more into this than usual!

Things will unfold that close in on the mysteries of the Dragon Ball world.

Hope you all enjoy these different-from-usual battles that are cute and powerful!!

Daima is being produced by Toei Animation and A-1 Pictures. Masako Nozawa is set to reprise her role as Goku, with no other voice actors confirmed to return so far.

Yoshitaka Yashima (Dragon Ball Super) and Aya Komaki (One Piece) will direct, with Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru adapting Toriyama’s designs. Yuuko Kakihara (Digimon Adventure tri.) is handling the scripts.

The series follows the series cast as they’ve been turned young again. Though somewhat similar to the premise of GT, Daima is set to be an original story. Daima will also introduce new characters; Pansle, Glorio, and Gomah. While not much is known about them so far, more is likely to be revealed as the premiere date nears.
