Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is Steam's latest MOBA with online co-op features, and players can enjoy it for free. The Japanese franchise has inspired many video games since the 1980s. However, Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is being called the first of its kind in the series, and for good reason.

Several popular MOBA games on Steam are free to play. One example is Supervive, which quickly grew its player base, reaching nearly 50,000 concurrent players at its peak. Another recent release, BAPBAP, offers a creative spin on the genre while remaining completely free. Now, free MOBA fans have a new Dragon Ball game to try, which is shaping up to be one of the franchise's more popular entries.

Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra Is a Free MOBA with 4-Player Squads

Released on September 9, Bandai Namco Entertainment's Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra pits two 4-player teams against each other. According to developer Ganbarion, it is the franchise's first team-oriented free game, with a roster that features the most iconic Dragon Ball characters. Some examples include Goku, Vegeta, Krillin, and Piccolo. As with most modern MOBAs, fighters are divided into three main classes: Damage, Tank, and Technical, allowing players to create strategic teams that balance DPS and defense while providing tactical support. Fans might be interested to know that Gekishin Squadra has already received over 250 reviews on Steam, with a median rating of "Mostly Positive," reflecting a strong reception from players.

Although the base game is completely free, some customization features may include microtransactions. Ganbarion explains that Gekishin Squadra allows players to change the appearance of their favorite Dragon Ball characters, giving them personalized styles and skins. Currently, the most expensive item in the game's store appears to be an $80 bundle of Dragon Gems, the primary currency for buying cosmetics and skins.

While Gekishin Squadra was released recently, it has already reached over 12,000 concurrent players on Steam (via SteamDB), an impressive feat for a title of this scale. Fans should note that the game is also available on several other platforms, including PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS, meaning the overall player base could be much larger than it seems, especially since MOBA games on mobile devices have grown in popularity. Even better, the game supports crossplay, allowing players on all platforms to compete against each other seamlessly.

Just before the global release, Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra added five new fighters: Cell, Android 17, Hit, Kale, and Gamma 1 & 2. This suggests that future updates could expand the roster further, bringing even more beloved heroes and villains from the Dragon Ball franchise, which should be exciting news for fans.
