Publisher Bandai Namco has announced Dragon Ball Project: Multi, a new multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) title. Some Dragon Ball fans can already sign up for a chance to participate in the game's beta, which is planned to kick off in the second half of August 2024.
Dragon Ball Project: Multi comes from Ganbarion, a Fukuoka, Japan-based developer that has previously authored no fewer than 14 One Piece games. The latest of those debuted in 2019 in the form of One Piece: World Seeker. Since then, the studio has released just one other game, a Japan-only 2021 adventure called Engawa Danshi to Kemono Tan, which literally translates to "Engawa Boys and Beast Tan."

Dragon Ball Project: Multi Coming to PC and Mobile
Three years later, Ganbarion's next game has now been unveiled in the form of Dragon Ball Project: Multi, which is being pitched as a free-to-play MOBA title for PC and mobile devices. Since Bandai Namco holds the license for making Dragon Ball games, the Japanese company is the one that's going to be publishing Dragon Ball Project: Multi. The game itself won't be Ganbarion's first foray into the famous franchise, as the studio has also previously developed the Dragon Ball Fusions RPG, a 3DS exclusive that debuted in North America and Europe in November 2016 and February 2017, respectively.
Dragon Ball Project: Multi Beta Signups Are Now Open, But There's a Catch
Fans wanting to be among the first to try this newly unveiled MOBA game can sign up to participate in its inaugural beta. However, the catch is that the upcoming test is regional, with Ganbarion limiting it to just eight countries: the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. The regional beta will be available on Android, iOS, and PC (via Steam). The only exception are Germany and South Korea, which will only get access to the mobile version of the beta. The regional test will run from 11pm PT on August 19 to 10:59pm PT on September 2.
Dragon Ball Project: Multi still doesn't have a firm release date or even a release window. Ditto for an official title, as Project: Multi is merely a provisional moniker. The game itself seems to be a fairly typical MOBA experience, revolving around PvP battles between two teams of four people. Each playable hero comes with their own skills and abilities that allow them to fulfill one of three basic roles: DPS, tank, and support.
The announcement of Project: Multi arrives during a bit of a lull for the franchise, as 2023 was the first year in a while without a new Dragon Ball game release. The latest such title to emerge is Dragon Ball: The Breakers, an online asymmetrical action game that debuted in 2022. The next will be Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi, a Spike Chunsoft-developed fighting game scheduled to launch on October 11, 2024.
