Summary

  • Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero's publisher has warned players of bans for using mods in Custom Battles.
  • While mods are allowed in other areas, players should delete modded Custom Battles to avoid bans.

The publisher of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has threatened bans for players using mods in Custom Battles. Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero fans have used Custom Battles to create their own scenarios since launch, but that may all change with an upcoming ban wave.

Since it was released, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has been a wild success for Bandai Namco and Spike Chunsoft. The latest Dragon Ball fighting game sold 3 million copies in one day, raising the bar for the franchise. One of the main appeals of Sparking Zero is its return to the Budokai Tenkaichi series, which was popular on the sixth generation of consoles. The game also features a roster of 182 characters which dwarfs earlier entries in the series. Some players have been using mods to create their own battles, sometimes featuring characters beyond this roster. Bandai Namco has confirmed that Custom Battles using mods run the risk of being banned.

The Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Twitter account recently shared a post about security measures being taken against players using mods in Custom Battles. According to the announcement, the support team will be unable to "address any issues or appeals" for players who are caught using Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero mods. Because of this, Bandai Namco recommends deleting the modded Custom Battles immediately to avoid unnecessary bans. This announcement offers players some time to remove their Custom Battles and avoid a ban. While the tweet warns players to delete these Custom Battles immediately, it's unclear when the mod ban wave may take place, and it could be as early as tomorrow.

Some Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Mods May Result in a Ban

Due to the tweet mentioning that any mod system involved in players' Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Custom Battles could result in a ban, this may affect some players using modded characters in the game mode. Players who use character costumes like Chi Chi, Gohan Black, and Dragon Ball Super Trunks can also be banned in Ranked mode, which limits their gameplay options. Despite this, mods will continue to be allowed in other areas of the game and some cosmetic ones may never result in a ban. As Bandai Namco hasn't confirmed how many players are using Custom Battles, it's unclear how many fans may get banned after this warning. With not all Custom Battles featuring NSFW content, it's not obvious how many of the players are malicious.

With more content coming in the future Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero DLC, some mods may become less necessary. Because some players have been using mods in Custom Battles to create unsafe content, the bans could be intended to improve overall quality.
