Most of the fights in the Episode Battle mode of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO are relatively straightforward. However, during the first chapter of Goku's Saga, players will come across the "Vegeta's Secret Maneuver" episode, during which they'll need to find a way to beat Great Ape Vegeta.

Just like in the anime and manga, Great Ape Vegeta is a very powerful fighter, with some of his attacks able to wipe out an entire health bar or more. A lot of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO players will struggle to beat Great Ape Vegeta when they first encounter him, due both to how powerful he is and how new they are to the game.

Players who are really struggling to defeat Great Ape Vegeta can lower the difficulty level by pressing L2 (PlayStation) or LT (Xbox) on the stage select screen. As there are no secondary clear conditions for Vegeta's Secret Maneuver, there's no real punishment for completing the fight on easy.

There are a few different strategies for beating Great Ape Vegeta, but the most effective involves an awful lot of blocking and abuse of the game's Sparking mechanic. Players can block by holding the R1 (PlayStation) or RB (Xbox) button and will be able to trigger Sparking mode by holding R2 (PlayStation) or RT (Xbox) to charge Goku's ki until the ki bar in the top left-hand corner of the screen turns pink, although the latter will only work if players have one Skill point stored up.

Vegeta usually starts the fight with a ki blast, so players should block this and then charge their key a little. When Vegeta moves in, they'll want to back away until they find some cover and then continue charging. Hopefully, by this point, the Skill Count Bar will have ticked over to one, allowing players to trigger Sparking mode for the first of many times. If Vegeta is also charging his ki and looks like he might be close to Sparking mode, players should quickly fire off a regular ki blast to disrupt him, as the last thing that they want to have to deal with is Vegeta's Super Galick Gun attack.

Whenever they're in Sparking mode, players should get in close and pummel Vegeta with regular attacks (Square on PlayStation or X on Xbox), being sure to tap R1 (PlayStation) or RB (Xbox) every now and again to avoid sending him flying. Once Sparking mode ends, players should back off again and then repeat the cycle until the fight comes to an end. It's a good idea to stay out of arm's reach while charging, as Great Ape Vegeta's grab attack will deal a ridiculous amount of damage. Players can afford to get caught once or twice by it, but any more will almost certainly result in a loss.

If players have a few Skill points saved up, they should use Kaioken right before triggering Sparking mode, as doing so will provide a significant boost to their attack power as well as a few other buffs.
