Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO might be able to put the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to shame when all is said and done. With Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO's trailers starting to roll in, fans are getting more chances to see what they should expect. While the main showcase so far has been the gameplay, it has also given a few glimpses into the game's roster. So far, what has been shown points towards potentially the biggest Dragon Ball Z game roster to date. By extension, that would make it far bigger than Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's own roster.
After over a decade, Budokai Tenkaichi returns as Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO. Despite the name change, the spirit of the old series seems alive and well if the trailers are any indication. Not only is the game full of familiar Dragon Ball characters, but the combat looks to be as dynamic and explosive as fans would have expected from the old games. Since the franchise has expanded several times since then, most notably with Dragon Ball Super, there are a lot of characters that never got to appear in that series. In that sense, Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is a big opportunity for the franchise.
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero: The Case for Ultra Ego Vegeta at Launch
Vegeta's Ultra Ego transformation is still exclusive to Dragon Ball Super's Manga, but featuring it in Sparking Zero could truly let him shine.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO Could Set a New Bar for Dragon Ball Game Rosters
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Has a Stunning Roster For a Modern Fighting Game
Among the game's many other impressive qualities, the final roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate helped secure the game's legacy. It not only encompasses almost all of Nintendo's biggest names, but several other gaming icons. The end result was one of the most impressive-looking rosters in the industry's history. However, this is one area where Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO can certainly compete with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The Dragon Ball games have always benefited from having the series' rich history to pull fighters from, which has always helped Dragon Ball have some of the most extensive rosters in the fighting genre.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO's Roster Goes Deep Into the Series' History of Fighters
The game has already telegraphed that it's delving deep into franchise history for its fighters. Recently confirmed characters for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO have included more than just the series mainstays. They have also included minor fighters who only received brief prominence, including:
- Jeice
- Burter
- Toppo
- Dyspo
- Kakunsa
The presence of these fighters is an excellent sign for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO. In addition to expanding the roster, they also add excellent variety, with unique special moves and fighting styles beyond the famous Kamehamehas and Super Saiyan transformations. This should help to make the meta-game far healthier during the game's lifespan.
The Roster for Dragon Ball Sparking: ZERO Has Been Hinted to be Enormous
So far, the true potential of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO's roster has only barely been glimpsed. With how many fighters are in the series, Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO's roster could feature hundreds depending on how many fighters are deemed eligible. The trailers have even shown a massive grid slowly filling as more fighters get revealed.
If the scale implied by the grid is anything close to the final product, then Dragon Ball: Sparking ZERO's roster is going to be gargantuan, even by the standards of Dragon Ball games, and It's possible that future DLC could make its numbers grow even more.
Dragon Ball fans have every reason to be excited for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO's roster since it could be the ultimate collection of Dragon Ball fighters. On the chance that Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO includes non-canon content, it could stretch that reputation even further. A fighting game's roster is one of its most important features, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate did an excellent job of showing why. However, the Dragon Ball games have always thrived on good rosters, and Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO's roster may be able to outshine all others.
