Summary

  • Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero modders add upgraded split-screen multiplayer for all stages.
  • The PC mods allow players to access various maps beyond the original limitations.

A Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero modder has given the local split-screen multiplayer a big upgrade, making it possible for gamers to play on more than just the Hyperbolic Time Chamber stage. Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is officially out for all players, after a three-day early access period for adopters of the fighting game's Digital Deluxe and Ultimate Editions. Sparking Zero has been praised by fans for being a grand return to the classic Budokai Tenkaichi series and its gameplay. The game has also been praised for its diverse What-If scenarios and character roster.

If there is one thing that some fans have criticized the game for, it would be the game's split-screen multiplayer mode. In the original Budokai Tenkaichi trilogy, players could fight each other in local PvP, taking place in many of the game's destructible environments. Sparking Zero was close to cutting this feature before release, due to the developers running into issues regarding the Xbox Series X/S version of the game. Sparking Zero did end up incorporating local split-screen multiplayer, albeit limited to one stage.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero sets a major Steam record before its official launch, showing potential for the fighting game's future.

A Sparking Zero modder has already fixed this for the PC version with the DB Sparking Zero Minimalist Trainer mod on NexusMods. Installing this mod makes it so that players aren't limited to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber stage in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero when playing on split-screen, with almost all 24 stages being available to play when in use. The mod only works with the PC version of the game.

Another mod that achieves the same effect is the Let's Fight Somewhere Else mod by Sora101Ven, allowing players to access any stage in the game, even maps that players can't actually fight on. Some of the maps that are normally inaccessible include various Cutscene and Story Battle Maps, such as Goku's House, Kame House, and outer space. While this mod was originally intended for the split-screen multiplayer mode, players can also load this mod to change the locales of the battles in Sparking Zero's single-player story mode.

Most fans were split on the local multiplayer's limitations when it was first confirmed, as one of the biggest appeals of Sparking Zero is fighting in an open environment, and the online multiplayer does support play on all stages. Many suspect that the game was always capable of this, the only limit being Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero's Xbox Series X/S version, where the developers needed to make the split-screen multiplayer have the same parity across all versions, even if it meant limiting the features on platforms that could support all the stages and its destructible elements.
