During the wait for the final DLC pack of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s Season Pass, Shallot has been announced as an extra DLC fighter. This announcement came as a surprise in that it was unexpected, but also that the character is one that not many fans could have anticipated. Shallot’s addition to Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has proven that the game is a celebration of the series’ history, but some players could be left wondering who he is.
Although its season pass is coming to an end soon, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s future is looking bright, and extra DLC characters like Shallot are helping to keep the game alive. Any new content is a great incentive for the community to revisit the game, but the inclusion of obscure characters like Shallot will resonate most with die-hard fans of the series. Before this DLC content becomes available, fans who are unaware should learn who this mysterious character is.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Mod Adds Daima Transformation to the Game
Dragon Ball: Daima finally made a fan-favorite Super Saiyan transformation canon, and modders are now adding it to Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero.
Who Is Shallot?
He Originated in a Mobile Game
As can be inferred by Dragon Ball’s vegetable-based pun names, Shallot is an ancient Saiyan warrior from Universe 7’s Planet Sadala prior to its destruction. He and his twin brother Giblet are descendants of the Super Saiyan God, and as a result, he is the only known Saiyan currently capable of ascending to this form without removing his tail. Despite being one of the most powerful characters in the series, Shallot’s capabilities were held back by his memories being erased, requiring him to learn new abilities from other Dragon Ball characters.
Shallot’s first appearance was in the mobile game Dragon Ball Legends as the game’s lead protagonist, fighting in the Tournament of Time alongside iconic Dragon Ball characters both new and old. Due to his amnesia, Shallot is a blank slate, meaning that he is capable of learning most of the abilities seen throughout the series when trained by other characters. This makes him a great character for players who want to mix and match fighting styles to create something truly unique.
How Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Is Handling the Character
In the reveal trailer for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s Shallot DLC, the character can be seen using the attacks of characters like Goku and Vegeta, staying true to Dragon Ball Legends. It seems as though this moveset could be fixed like other characters, but this might not be the case.
Some players were disappointed with Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s customization options, but the Shallot DLC could be an indicator of changes to come. If Shallot’s moveset can be customized to the player’s liking using other characters’ abilities, a similar feature could be introduced for the rest of the roster, giving each version of any given character a shared move pool to select from.
So far, it seems as though Shallot will only be available in base form, meaning players wanting to see him achieve Super Saiyan God and beyond would need to play Dragon Ball Legends. Alternatively, there is an unofficial mod for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero that added Shallot months before he was announced as DLC, which includes multiple Super Saiyan forms. These forms could still be added to his Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero iteration, but since his story in Dragon Ball Legends is still incomplete, they may not be added until more is known about what the character is truly capable of.
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero: 8 Best Alternate Outfits
Fashion might not be players' first throught in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, but the game provides plenty of cool-looking outfits to try on.
What Shallot’s DLC Means for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero
What makes Shallot's appearance in Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero so noteworthy is that this is his first appearance in a game outside of Dragon Ball Legends. Even long-time Dragon Ball fans who skipped the mobile game might be unaware of who he is, and his inclusion among Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s other obscure characters is a great way to introduce him to the rest of the community. Shallot’s inclusion on the roster could be the gateway for other obscure characters to make their way to more mainstream Dragon Ball games, such as Giblet and Zahha from Dragon Ball Legends or even Dr. Slump’s Arale.
It’s also worth noting that the Shallot DLC slotted itself into the Season Pass without prior notice. The next Dragon Ball Daima DLC pack seems to be the last for the Season Pass, but Shallot seems to indicate that more could be planned for the future. Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero continues to receive frequent updates, so more DLC packs could further help to keep the game alive.
Shallot’s main gimmick of being able to borrow the moves of fan-favorite Dragon Ball characters could still be added to Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, even if his moveset cannot be customized.
The game has already given the same character different movesets depending on the outfit or the version of the character chosen. In Dragon Ball Legends, Shallot has access to many costumes based on the game’s main cast. If these outfits were carried over to Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, his moveset could change to match his clothing. While this might not be as customizable as the Dragon Ball Xenoverse games, it could still provide Shallot with the variety expected of the character’s abilities.
There is still much to learn about Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s take on Shallot, but fans won’t need to wait too long to be able to find out. The character is available to all players who purchase the DLC on June 26, but owners of the Season Pass will still be granted 3-day early access, making him available on June 23.
This surprise Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero announcement reveals a lot about the future of the game and its continued support, as well as the potential for some of the series’ more obscure characters to be given the spotlight. Dragon Ball fans should have a lot to look forward to in the near and distant future, but until then, they have plenty of time to catch up on the origins of Shallot in Dragon Ball Legends ahead of the DLC’s release.
