Nothing lasts forever, not even Godhood, apparently. Being a God of Destruction is one of the most prestigious jobs in Dragon Ball Super. Gods of Destruction get to decide who lives and who dies in their universe, evaluating planets based on their potential and wiping out worlds that are bringing their multiversal ranking down. For as powerful as he is, Beerus isn't the best God of Destruction as far as his career goes.
The Official 10 Strongest Dragon Ball Super Forms, Ranked
Dragon Ball Super's power scaling means that the series' forms are leagues stronger than anything seen in Dragon Ball Z, & are only getting stronger.
Beerus is lazy, brash, and makes his decisions primarily based on how tasty a planet's cuisine is. Interestingly, it's been implied multiple times in Dragon Ball Super that the God of Destruction role is not a permanent gig. Both Beerus and Whis have made mention of finding a successor for when Beerus eventually retires (or dies). Between Goku, Vegeta, and most recently Gohan, Beerus has quite a few options to take over as Dragon Ball Super's main God of Destruction.
5 Gohan Has the Power to Succeed Beerus, But Not the Attitude
As of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Gohan Beast is currently the second-strongest mortal in the series, after Black Frieza. In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103, Gohan visits Beerus' Planet and ends up sparring with Ultra Instinct Goku. During the fight, Gohan Beast does so well, that Whis mentions the possibility of Gohan becoming the next God of Destruction of Universe 7. While Beerus begrudgingly acknowledges Gohan's power, he doesn't consider him a worthy successor due to his strait-laced personality.
Despite some violent outbursts during his childhood, Gohan has mellowed out considerably as an adult. He's a family man through and through, and by far the most career oriented character in Dragon Ball, working a fairly traditional job as a scholar. Becoming a God of Destruction doesn't really suit Gohan and wouldn't make him happy, even if his sound judgement and work ethic would arguably make him an excellent candidate to replace Beerus.
4 Goku Becoming a God of Destruction Would Bring Dragon Ball Super Full Circle
Dragon Ball Super began with Goku and Beerus, and will more than likely end with Goku and Beerus. All throughout DBS, Beerus has been the benchmark Goku has been striving to surpass, always winding up one step behind even when he unlocks transformation after transformation. As the first mortal in history to push Beerus into using more than just a fraction of his power, there's a considerable amount of respect between Beerus and Goku.
5 Dragon Ball Super Characters Stronger Than Ultra Instinct Goku
As of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Ultra Instinct Goku is weaker than his rival, his son, and even the series' next main villain.
It would make sense on paper for Beerus to make Goku the next God of Destruction, and this development has been teased a number of times throughout Dragon Ball Super. That said, Goku is going down a very different path. In and of itself, Ultra Instinct shows that Goku is closer to an angel than he is a God of Destruction. Goku's been the past few arcs developing Whis' teachings, as opposed to Beerus', and raw destruction just doesn't fit who Goku is as a character.
3 Broly's Potential Makes Him a Perfect God of Destruction Candidate
Broly is chaos and destruction personified. In his Legendary Super Saiyan form, Broly fights out of pure animalistic instinct. LSSJ Broly is so powerful, he was able to defeat Goku, Vegeta, and Frieza in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Goku & Vegeta had to fuse into Gogeta just to stand a chance, and had to outright transform into Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta to actually beat Broly for good.
With some more training, Broly will eventually be able to control his Legendary Super Saiyan transformation, making him a perfect candidate as a God of Destruction. The key problem with Broly being Beerus' successor is two-fold: he's still got a long ways to go before he'll be able to turn into Legendary Super Saiyan at will, and he's dumb as a stump. Broly frankly makes Goku look like Bulma as far as smarts are concerned – he likely wouldn't have the best judgment when it comes to sparing and destroying planets. Granted, neither does Beerus.
2 Vegeta is Beerus' Apprentice & Currently Being Groomed as a God of Destruction
Beginning with the Granolah Saga, Goku and Vegeta start going down very different paths in their respective training. While Goku embraces Whis' angelic training to fully master Ultra Instinct, Vegeta realizes that UI wouldn't suit him and starts training with Beerus exclusively, studying his destructive powers in full. As a token of Vegeta's growth, Beerus even gives Vegeta a God of Destruction earring, which Vegeta wears for the rest of the arc.
7 Dragon Ball Super Characters Stronger Than Ultra Ego Vegeta
Ultra Ego Vegeta may be stronger than Ultra Instinct Goku (for now), but he's hardly the strongest character in Dragon Ball Super.
While fighting Granolah, Vegeta unlocks his own unique form: Ultra Ego. Ultra Ego Vegeta is basically a God of Destruction in all but name. Channeling pure destructive power, Ultra Ego Vegeta grows stronger throughout battle, funneling any damage he takes into a higher Power Level. Vegeta's big drawback right now is that he can't control Ultra Ego all that well, but with some more training, he'll make a perfect replacement for Beerus and already has a personality suited for calculated destruction.
1 Becoming Universe 7's Next God of Destruction is the Perfect Job for Frieza
The only character better-suited to replace Beerus than Vegeta is Frieza: the strongest mortal in Dragon Ball Super. At the end of the Granolah Saga, Frieza arrives with a new transformation and effortlessly defeats Gas, Goku, and Vegeta without breaking a sweat. Black Frieza is the most powerful transformation in DBS right now, and none of the main characters are even remotely close to catching up to him by the end of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
Once the Black Frieza Saga starts, the Z-Fighters are in for an uphill battle unlike any other. If worse comes to worst, the best way to pacify Frieza may be Beerus offering him the role of God of Destruction. While Frieza becoming a God of Destruction sounds dangerous on paper, everything in Dragon Ball suggests Frieza is actually a good employer and takes his job as a galactic tyrant seriously, with professional decorum. To keep Universe 7's multiversal status high and in good regard with Zeno, Frieza would actually do an excellent job at being a GoD. He just needs to keep his prejudices in check.
