It only took eight long years, but the Dragon Ball Super anime is finally back and looking better than ever. Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri, an event dedicated to celebrating the Dragon Ball anime's 40th anniversary, revealed that a Dragon Ball Super remake will begin releasing in Fall of 2026, followed by an adaptation of the manga's Moro Saga titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, which has only recently entered production and currently has no release window.

Dragon Ball Super is officially back with a brand new anime eight years later.

The Dragon Ball brand has been suspiciously silent since Dragon Ball DAIMA ended at the start of 2025. Many fans were expecting either a sequel to Dragon Ball DAIMA, a new movie, or a continuation of Toyotarou's Dragon Ball Super manga. While a Dragon Ball Super remake has been rumored for a while now, the fact it's become a reality bodes well for Dragon Ball's future. The anime finally has an opportunity to fix the series' animation errors, remove filler, adapt manga-exclusive scenes, and finally build up to the epic Moro and Granolah Sagas. It'll take a few years, but at this rate, Dragon Ball fans will hopefully get to see Ultra Ego Vegeta, Black Frieza, and Goku's final battle with Moro fully animated before 2030.

The Dragon Ball Super Remake Officially Brings the Anime Back in Fall 2026

Set to start airing on Fuji TV in Fall 2026, the Dragon Ball Super remake begins with a brand-new anime titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus has been described as an enhanced version of both Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, and Dragon Ball Super's Beerus Saga, recontextualizing the anime's original adaptation with new scenes from the manga, redone animation, and brisker pacing.

Dragon Ball Super Anime Remake Officially Revealed For Fall 2026

A new Dragon Ball Super remake starting with a fresh adaptation of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods will release Fall 2026.

Regarding the remake process for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, the official Dragon Ball site states, "The project features extensive new cuts, revisions to existing scenes, a complete re-rendering of all footage, newly recorded dubbing with added score and sound effects, and a full reconstruction of the story. Living up to the name ENHANCED, this edition employs the latest visual expression to deliver greater power and immersion across all scenes, especially the battle sequences. The result is an ENHANCED edition that expresses Akira Toriyama’s original idea and worldbuilding more accurately, that will be broadcasted with highly satisfying quality."

Dragon Ball insiders have leaked that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will run for six episodes, before remaking Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F as a new anime titled Dragon Ball Super: Golden Frieza. From there, the remake will realistically cycle through every Saga under this new branding, before finally setting up Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol after an anime remake of Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Depending on how quickly the remake can get through Battle of Gods, Resurrection F, the Universe 6 Tournament, the Goku Black Saga, the Tournament of Power, and Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol could air as early as Late 2027 – though an early 2028 release window feels more realistic.

The Dragon Ball Super Manga's Moro Saga is Finally Getting Animated

After years of hype, Dragon Ball fans will finally get to see the Moro Saga animated – albeit not until 2027/2028, depending on how quickly the Dragon Ball Super remake can get through its only material (and that's assuming the anime doesn't take any breaks in-between story arcs). Called the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, but more commonly the Moro Arc by fans, Toyotarou's first manga-exclusive storyline is also one of Dragon Ball Super's very best.

The Moro Arc feels like the perfect mix of old school Dragon Ball Z and Toei's non-canon movies, giving all the Z-Fighters time to shine in some of the series' most creative fights. The Moro Arc also does wonders for Dragon Ball Super's world-building, making Universe 7 feel even larger by fleshing out Angel lore, the mechanics of Ultra Instinct, and introducing multiple new alien races as the ancient wizard Moro travels across the universe to eat planets and grow stronger.

Dragon Ball Super's Moro Saga gives both Vegeta and Goku their best character development since Dragon Ball Z. Vegeta is finally forced to confront his sins on Namek, illustrating just how much he's changed since his days as a typical villain, while Goku finds a new mentor in Merus, who teaches him how to use Ultra Instinct to its fullest. Featuring amazing action, plot twists, and training arcs for Goku and Vegeta, the Moro Arc will surely break the internet when Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol releases in either late 2027 or early 2028.

Dragon Ball Super Gets an Official Rebrand

Dragon Ball Super Beerus Logo

Keen-eyed Dragon Ball fans will notice that Dragon Ball Supe has officially been rebranded for this new era. Rather than keeping the series' original logo where Super is written out in gold, the new Dragon Ball Super logo changes the gold to a bold blue. Interestingly, the franchise is fully adopting Dragon Ball Super: Broly's naming convention by giving each story arc a new title.

It's Time To Say Goodbye to the Dragon Ball Super Manga & Toyotarou

With the Dragon Ball Super anime officially returning, fans expected news on Toyotarou's manga comeback, but things look grim for the manga's future.

So far, we've only seen titles for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus and Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, but it's safe to assume the next set of sagas will be retitled Dragon Ball Super: Golden Frieza, Dragon Ball Super: Universe 6, Dragon Ball Super: Goku Black, Dragon Ball Super: Tournament of Power, Dragon Ball Super: Granolah, and – once everything up to Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero has been remade – Dragon Ball Super: Black Frieza.
