Warning: The following contains spoilers for the Dragon Ball Super manga.

Dragon Ball Super is, for some, the legitimate heir of Dragon Ball Z. It's not only that the series was co-created by Akira Toriyama himself, but it also carries the legacy of Z by introducing amazing villains and transformations. For instance, many fans complain that Dragon Ball Daima follows a different path and leaves power-scaling behind to focus on adventure.

In any case, these fans can't wait for Dragon Ball Super Season 2 to be announced. And if the first season was already pretty good, the second season will introduce many more characters, including one who could surpass Beerus.

Why Dragon Ball Super's Return Might Take Longer than Expected

Dragon Ball Super won't return to serialization within the new few months, and here's why.

Dragon Ball Super Season 2 Will Feature Amazing Arcs

Since the ending of the Dragon Ball Super anime, fans have been waiting for the announcement of the second season. The manga continued after the ending of the anime and introduced many interesting characters, like Moro and Granolah.

The next season, if ever announced, will probably cover both the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga and the Granolah the Survivor Saga, as well as the High School Saga, which happens right before the Super Hero Saga, the original arc from the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie that was later adapted into the anime. The problem with a potential second season is that Dragon Ball Super is on hiatus, with no prospect of returning soon.

Angel/Mortal

Among the characters introduced in the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, there is Merus, an elite member of the Galactic Patrol. He is extremely powerful and takes his duties very seriously. But his Galactic Patrol life is actually a disguise, as he was originally an Angel, one of the mightiest beings of Universe 7.

Merus is said to have the potential to surpass Beerus, making him a great candidate to become the strongest warrior of the Dragon Ball franchise. However, during his battle with Moro, he lost his angelic traits, becoming a mortal. While he is not as strong as he used to be, he is still insanely powerful and able to use the Ultra Instinct ability. He would struggle to surpass Beerus as a mortal, but he is probably among the most powerful mortals in the franchise.

When Will DBS Season 2 Be Released?

As of today, Dragon Ball Super Season 2 has yet to be announced. It's been so many years since the first season aired that some fans even believe it will never be released. Still, it seems more likely Shueisha and Toei were waiting for the manga to advance more before producing a new season.

However, it has been reported that Shueisha and Capsule Corporation Tokyo are in litigation for the rights to the Dragon Ball franchise, and this is likely to impact the production of new anime, at least as long as this legal dispute is not over. Therefore, while it is unlikely that a second season of Super will never be produced, fans will likely have to wait longer for any news about the series.

Fans Await the Black Frieza Arc

It's not only anime fans who will have to wait for news; the Dragon Ball Super manga is also on hiatus, and V-JUMP editor Victory Uchida stated that the manga will not return this year. Readers have been eagerly waiting for an arc featuring Black Frieza, a new form of the classic villain, who is now more powerful than fans could ever imagine. Perhaps it would also be a better option to wait for the Black Frieza arc to be serialized before making plans for the production of DBS Season 2.

Dragon Ball Super is available to read on MANGA Plus, in English and Spanish.
