Back when Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was first released, its publisher, Bandai Namco Entertainment, was no stranger to making video game adaptations of hit anime franchises. Most of the adaptations it had launched, however, were fighting games of some kind. My Hero One's Justice 2, One-Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows, and Jump Force, for example, all followed similar formulas and gameplay styles. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, on the other hand, stood out from the crowd. Rather than retreading the same ground, Bandai Namco and developer CyberConnect2 decided to make Kakarot a full-fledged single-player action RPG, one which would retell the entire story of the Dragon Ball Z anime.

When Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot made its debut on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in January 2020, it received mostly mixed reviews from critics. In spite of this, the game gradually accumulated a cult following, and it's now widely regarded as one of the best Dragon Ball video game adaptations in recent memory. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is one of the few video games out there that actually lets players immerse themselves in the Dragon Ball universe. While the game may be flawed, its open-zone environments, extensive side activities, and playable Dragon Ball Z story sequences make it an experience like no other.

Now is the Best Time to Play Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Especially on PC

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is 75% Off on Steam For a Limited Time

Although Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a 5-year-old game at this point, there's probably never been a better time to play it than now, for more reasons than one. Thanks to the ongoing Steam summer sale, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is currently 75% off on Steam. The game normally costs $60 on all platforms, but right now, players can purchase it for just $15 on Valve's PC storefront. It's worth noting, though, that the sale is going to end on July 10, so gamers have only a few days to take advantage of this discount.

Since Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot hasn't been discounted on PlayStation, Nintendo, or Xbox platforms at the time of writing, console gamers will sadly have to miss out on this deal.

Bandai Namco Will Release a Free Graphics Update for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot on PC This Month

It seems PC gamers are getting special treatment from Bandai Namco this month, because the Steam sale for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot isn't the only new or upcoming event related to the game that's worth highlighting. Recently, Bandai Namco confirmed that Kakarot will be getting a free HD visual update on Steam, which will improve the game's graphics and rendering. Although it hasn't provided any specific details about what will be changed, the publisher has posted a brief comparison video for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot on its official YouTube channel, which contrasts the graphics of both the new and old versions of the game. This HD update is currently set to be released via Steam on July 17, a little more than a week from now.

A Major New DLC is Going to Be Released for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot in the Coming Days

On the same day that the HD update goes live, Bandai Namco is going to launch a new paid expansion for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot called DAIMA: Adventure Through the Demon Realm Part 1. As its name suggests, this DLC is meant to serve as a tie-in to the recent Dragon Ball Daima anime, which initially aired from October 2024 to February 2025. The Adventure Through the Demon Realm expansion is going to follow the escapades of Mini Goku and his group of friends as they go on a quest to find the Dragon Balls. It will feature an entirely new area to explore, called the Demon World, as well as a handful of new gameplay mechanics, like the Power Pole and Medi-Bug.

Daima: Adventure Through the Demon Realm is just one of two upcoming Kakarot expansions that are centered around the Dragon Ball Daima anime. The second Daima DLC is currently scheduled to be released sometime between January and March 2026. Unfortunately, players are not able to purchase the two DLCs separately. Instead, in order to access them, they have to buy the "Adventure Through the Demon Realm Pack," which costs $35 at the time of writing. Although this DLC bundle does come with a pretty hefty price tag, it's nice that Bandai Namco is still supporting Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot with major new content this late into its lifespan.
