Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake features a fast travel system that allows players to instantly teleport to any town, castle, or dungeon that they have previously visited. To engage with this system, players must use Chimera Wings or the Zoom spell, the latter of which takes some effort to unlock. For those players who want to know more about earning the Zoom spell, or simply want an overview of Dragon Quest 1 Remake's fast travel system, this guide contains all the information that they need.
How to Fast Travel in Dragon Quest 1 Remake
Chimera Wings & Zoom Spell
As previously noted, players who want to fast travel will need the Zoom spell or Chimera Wings. With respect to Zoom, this spell is unlocked upon getting Dragon Quest' s Hero to Level 13. And with regard to Chimera Wings, players will earn this item as they explore Alefgard, and they can also purchase it from item sellers ( which are marked on the in-game with a green square icon) in the following locations:
- Tantegel
- Galenholm
- Kol
- Rimuldar
- Citadel of the Monarch of Medals
- Wayfarer's Inn
- Cantlin
Using Chimera Wings
If a player wants to use Chimera Wings to fast travel, they should open the menu and select the item from within their Item Bag. Dragon Quest players should then select Use and choose the location of interest to initiate the teleportation.
Use Zoom Spell
After players reach Level 13 and unlock Zoom, there are two ways that they can go about using the spell. The first is to open the menu, select Spells, pick Zoom, and then choose the location you want to visit. The second is to open the in-game map, press the Zoom input that appears to the left of the map, and choose the desired location.
If a player would like to fast travel to the exterior of a location, rather than landing within it, they should hold the input that appears beneath the location list instead of simply selecting the location.
When to Fast Travel in Dragon Quest 1 Remake
While the fast travel feature in Dragon Quest 1 Remake is extremely useful, it is important to acknowledge that players who use it every time they want to return to a location may find themselves under leveled at certain points in the game. Indeed, frequently bypassing random encounters by using fast travel can lead to the Hero not leveling up adequately. This issue can be addressed with a bit of grinding, but players who find that approach to leveling boring may want to minimize their use of fast travel.
