Metal Slimes are an iconic enemy in the Dragon Quest series that returns in Dragon Quest 3 Remake. These enemies should be focused down any time you face them, as they offer huge sums of XP if you're able to defeat them before they run away.

As you progress through the game, there will be other forms of Metal Slimes such as Liquid Metal Slimes that give even more XP, so it's important to know how to take them down whenever you find them. Luckily, the method for taking down all Metal Slimes is the same; here's how to do it.

Dragon Quest 3 Remake: What Does Line-Up Do

Dragon Quest 3 Remake lets you change the line-up of your party and switch between different party leaders, here's how to do it.

How To Damage Metal Slimes In Dragon Quest 3 Remake

The only way to damage Metal Slimes is by using basic weapon damage, meaning all you can do is the basic attack option and hope for the best. Metal Slimes have incredibly high defense and Agility, meaning they will mostly dodge your attacks and those that do land will only do one damage. Their incredibly high Agility does have a real stat to it, but it is beyond the level any character can achieve unless you come back much later in the game.

Critical Hits will do a lot more damage and kill them instantly, so take advantage of the Thief's Assassin's Stab to try and land critical hits consistently.

Metal Slimes also have a very high chance of running away every turn, so you need to prioritize them once you do find them. They are completely immune to all magic or effects from items, so don't waste your time trying to set something up and just start attacking. Abilities such as Call Of The Wild attack multiple times and can be useful when facing only one Slime, though if there are multiple it's usually best to focus on so the AI of your party's other attacks knows to focus on the same one and take it down before it runs away.

When you do find a Metal Slime, simply use a basic attack with all party members and hope they don't run away, as there isn't much else you can do. Be wary of other monsters so that they don't kill your party and you lose the XP, so it may be worth having your healer keep the party's health up while they focus on the Metal Slime first.
