Dragon's Dogma 2, like many other action-RPGs, features multiple endings for players to experience. Like so much of the game, player choice plays a huge role in how those endings come to pass. Dragon's Dogma 2 gives players a remarkable amount of freedom, and does very little hand holding. Because of this, some players may never experience the full range of content the game offers.
Dragon's Dogma 2 Review
Dragon's Dogma 2 is everything fans could want from a Dragon's Dogma sequel, but that also means it has a few rough edges.
To see all the endings in Dragon's Dogma 2, players will have to make a crucial choice at a very important moment. Unlike many contemporary action-RPGs, DD2 actually allows players to see every ending on a single save file. Currently, it appears there are three possible endings, with one generally considered to be the 'true ending.' This guide will explore each ending, sharing the steps players will have to take to see the good, the bad, and the true.
This guide contains information on every known ending to Dragon's Dogma 2. As players continue to explore the game, it is possible that new details will emerge, maybe even entirely new endings. Should that happen, it will be included here as soon as possible. Check back often for updates.
Spoiler Alert! Major late-game/end-game story spoilers ahead!
All Endings in Dragon's Dogma 2
There are currently three known endings in Dragon's Dogma 2, and they all take place around the same sequence of events. It's tough to say which endings are actually 'good' and 'bad,' but, out of the three, there is one ending that is clearly meant to be the 'true ending.'
Players will know when they are approaching the ending, as a distinct series of events will play out. After visiting the Seafloor Ruins, and creating the Empowered Godsbane Blade, the game will send the player to deliver it to Phaseus. Delivering the Godsway sets this sequence in motion, and there is no turning back once you are committed.
Make absolutely sure you are ready to move on before heading out to meet Phaseus at the Moonlight Tower – especially when going for the "true ending." Dragon's Dogma 2 does not make it clear that, once certain events are set in motion, there is no way to back out or reload to a point before the events occur. Almost all quests that were active will be discontinued. Saving in Dragon's Dogma 2 can already be bad, so only head to meet Phaseus when you are 100% done with everything you want to do in Dragon's Dogma 2.
How to See the Good and Bad Endings in Dragon's Dogma 2
There are two endings in Dragon's Dogma 2 that are possible to see at the end of the 'Legacy' main mission. Which ending the player sees depends on one very important choice between the Arisen and the dragon they have been chasing. While it is not entirely accurate to call these endings 'good' and 'bad,' that is the easiest way to categorize them for the sake of a guide.
How to See the Good Ending of Dragon's Dogma 2:
Players will begin the 'Legacy' main quest after completing 'The Guardian Gigantus.' This quest begins with the Arisen entering a conversation with the main dragon. During this conversation, the dragon reveals that he has captured the character with whom the player has the highest affinity level. The dragon then gives the player two choices: stay and face him, or leave the NPC with the dragon and walk away. The "Good" ending involves the player staying to fight the dragon. To do this, simply approach it and attack.
After attacking the dragon, he will tell the Arisen that he will fly them both to a more suitable battleground. Here, the final battle plays out. With the dragon dead, the Arisen returns as the Sovran of Vermund. The credits roll over the Arisen in the castle throne room, where a massive banquet is taking place. When the credits are done, the main menu will allow the player to start New Game Plus, or return to the last save.
How to See the Bad Ending of Dragon's Dogma 2:
To see the "bad" ending, simply walk away when the dragon offers the original choice. The player will leave their favored NPC, and go on to become Sovran, and the credits will play out largely the same. However, this time the room will be far less festive. There is a much darker feeling hanging over the chamber. At the end of the credits, players can once again return to their last save, or start New Game Plus.
Dragon's Dogma 2 saves when players enter the Moonlight Tower, so there is currently no known way to return to a previous point in the game. Players who wish to continue exploring the world should do so before entering the tower.
How to See the True Ending of Dragon's Dogma 2
The "true" ending of Dragon's Dogma 2 begins the same way as the other endings. The player forges the Godsway sword, empowering it at the Forbidden Magick Research Lab. The giant Talos still chases down Phaseus as he heads for the Moonlight Tower, and the Arisen is still faced with the same two choices in 'Legacy.'
Follow these steps to begin the "True" ending of Dragon's Dogma 2:
- Choose to fight the dragon instead of turning away.
- While flying to the fight on the dragon's back, climb around to its heart. You should notice as the heart gets closer that the Sovran's heart begins to glow and pulse along with the dragon's.
-
Open up the inventory and find the
Empowered Godsbane Blade
. Select 'Use.'
- With the sword out, the Arisen will turn it on themselves. Notice both attack options say 'Use on Self.' Press the attack button to begin the path to the true ending.
- Once the sword is plunged into the Arisen's heart, both they and the dragon will fall from the sky and into the sea. The Brine takes sucks them both down.
- The player will wake up in the Unmoored World - this is actually more like an entire section than just an ending. Play out the few available quests to see the true ending. How long the process is depends on how much was done before heading to meet Phaseus.
How to See All Dragon's Dogma 2 Endings in One Playthrough
If players have already completed one of the first two endings, there is still a way to see the true ending, as long as New Game Plus has not been started. If players complete the bad ending first, they will have to head back to the last save. They can then complete the good ending, which leads to the Arisen having the freedom to walk to the throne during the credits. Instead of walking to the throne, look for the Pathfinder – the spectral, hooded figure that has helped the Arisen from the start – and speak to him. He will be sitting at a table to the right of the throne. After speaking to him once, he will head out into the crowd. Speak to him again, and he will send you back in time, to the moment you are flying on the back of the dragon. This allows you to see the true ending even after completing the good ending.
