- Itsuno expressed gratitude towards fans and disclosed plans to continue making games.
Dragon's Dogma 2 director Hideaki Itsuno has announced his departure from Capcom. During his 30 year-long tenure, the industry veteran was in charge of some of the Japanese developer's biggest games, including Dragon's Dogma 2 and Devil May Cry 5.
After joining Capcom in the '90s, Itsuno rose through the ranks while working on notable titles like 1995's Street Fighter Alpha. He took charge of the Devil May Cry franchise in 2003, eventually finding his feet and shipping well-received entries such as Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening and Devil May Cry 4. In 2012, the Japanese game designer helmed the original Dragon's Dogma game, whose sequel Dragon's Dogma 2 received rave reviews upon launch earlier this year. Drawing a close to his long-running chapter at Capcom, he has now decided to move on to a new challenge.
Dragon's Dogma 2 is a Brand-New Franchise Stepping Stone for All Intents and Purposes
Dragon's Dogma 2 impresses with new features and sets high hopes for future innovations and inclusivity whenever Capcom makes a sequel.
In a heartfelt message shared on Twitter, Hideaki Itsuno revealed that he is set to leave Capcom at the end of the month, after 30 years and 5 months of service. He expressed gratitude towards fans for their "long-term support of the games and characters I have been responsible for." Additionally, he said that he hopes they will "continue to support" forthcoming Capcom games and their characters. However, the Dragon's Dogma director also confirmed that his departure from the company doesn't mean he's stopping work in the industry anytime soon.
Dragon's Dogma Director Leaves Capcom But Will Continue Making Games
In his post, Itsuno highlighted his plans for the future and his intention to continue plying his trade in the game industry. He stated that his next chapter in game development begins right away, from September, in which he will build "a new game in a new environment." Moreover, the game director gave a general idea of what he aims to achieve with his subsequent projects. Itsuno said that his aim is to "create fun, beautiful games," which he hopes will compare to his existing work like the Devil May Cry games or even exceed it in terms of being memorable. He asked his fans to keep an eye out for his "next creation."
Based on Itsuno's comments, it's clear that his time creating games is far from over. However, the change in scenario involves the Devil May Cry veteran working on his projects elsewhere. While he may join another studio and work there, when senior game directors leave a major firm, there are always chances that they may be looking to set up an independent studio of their own and get full creative control on projects. Whatever the next move from Itsuno may be, longtime fans of his Capcom franchises will be raring to know more about it.
