In its predecessor, Dragon's Dogma, and its expansion Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, the maximum level players could get to was Level 200. For most, this was not required at all, and the game could be beat with a barely level 50 or so character. In Dragon's Dogma 2, much remains the same, though the max level cap in DD2 is significantly increased.
Dragon's Dogma 2: 8 Mechanics You Didn't Know About
There are a lot of smaller systems at play in Dragon's Dogma 2. Here are some of the key systems and mechanics you're probably unaware of.
And just like in the first title as well, Dragon's Dogma 2 features a variety of Vocations that the Arisen can take on, and rank up, to access new skills. The max player level in DD2 and the max Vocation rank are tracked separately, though.
What Is The Max Level In Dragon's Dogma 2?
In Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, the predecessor to Dragon's Dogma 2, max level was capped at 200. In the previous title, level 200 was still far above what most players would reach normally. The max level in Dragon's Dogma 2 is even more exorbitant – theoretically, players can reach a max level of lvl 999.
Both the Arisen and their Main Pawn level at practically the same rate, and have the same level cap in DD2. But it will take a very, very long time to reach the DD2 max level. Most players don't reach level 100 by the end of the game, let alone by the end of a single New Game Plus playthrough.
In practice, there is essentially no cap on your max level because it will take a nigh-unobtainable amount of grinding XP to reach lvl 999. Being at a level even a tenth of that (lvl 100) is high enough to crush most of the game's enemies and bosses, so unless you plan to go deep into New Game Plus, there's not much point in grinding to max level in Dragon's Dogma 2. However, it is a good idea to try to grind your Vocation to max level.
Max Vocation Rank Is Different Than Max Player Level
Though there's not much point to getting max level in Dragon's Dogma 2, as your Vocational Rank is tracked separately from the player's level, and offers new Vocation skills and Augments at new Ranks. Each Vocation can be leveled to a maximum Vocation rank of 9.
At even Ranks and the max rank 9, all Vocations grant new Augments, which can be transferred between Vocations once unlocked. New spells, abilities, and core skills unlock at most ranks, but can only be equipped when playing as the related Vocation (except Warfarer, but that's unique).
So, by leveling up in Dragon's Dogma 2, the Arisen will increase their core stats, but they won't necessarily gain new abilities. By ranking up their Vocation (which happens naturally alongside regular XP gains), the Arisen and their Main Pawn will unlock new class-related abilities. Both are ways to improve in Dragon's Dogma 2, but getting to max level is not as important as ranking up your Vocation and training new skills as often as possible.
