In the world of Dredge, players will encounter several quests that require them to find specific sea creatures. One of the most prominent series of recurring fetch-quests is the mysterious Hooded Figures. There are four of these encounters in the base game, and one in The Pale Reach. In this case, we are interested in the Figure in Purple, who asks for a series of three creatures, including the Tarpon. No clue is offered for locating the fish, so it can be slightly tricky for some players. This guide will show players how to find the Tarpon fish, and move on to the second tier of the quest.

Dredge: How to Find and Start the Iron Rig DLC

Like the base game, Dredge trusts players to discover The Iron Rig DLC content on their own. Here's where to start.

Where to Find the Tarpon Fish in Dredge

Dredge-Tarpon-Encyclopedia

Once you know where to look, the Tarpon is fairly easy to find. However, Dredge offers very little in the way of guidance, instead relying on the player to explore the area, and use the tools offered in-game. In this case, the encyclopedia is extremely useful. Using the shape of the fish as your guide, the encyclopedia will reveal that Tarpon are located in the Tangled Strand.

Within the Tangled Strand, the Tarpon is not found in one distinct location. Instead, it is found in several fishing spots throughout the region. The Tarpon has a very distinct appearance, with a long strand coming from the top of its body that is clearly visible in the outline that is shown when you locate a fishing spot.

How to Fish for Tarpon:

Dredge-Tarpon-Fishing-SPot

To catch a Tarpon, you'll need to use one of two options:

  • Shallow Rod
  • Trawling Net

While the Tarpon is found in the Tangled Strand, you won't need to use a Mangrove rod. Any Shallow Rod will suffice. You can also use the Net to trawl for a Tarpon. There is no way to know for sure how long it will take, but if you drive around the swamps, you'll eventually catch one.

Once you catch a Tarpon, you'll need to have three spaces in a straight line available in your storage.

Tarpon can be caught at any time of day, so feel free to fish during the day or night.

Where to Find the Figure in Purple in Dredge

Given that the Tarpon is tied to the Purple Hooded Figure, it's worth noting where it is located. To find the Figure in Purple, head to the small island to the south of the Tangled Strand. It is specifically found in the E9 tile. You will have to go to this region to locate one of the Relics for the man on Blackstone Island. It makes sense to wait until you get this task, as you can take care of it all at once.
