It's a big desert out there on Arrakis, and players need to use all their resources to survive and thrive in the harsh landscape. It's not just about moving fast in Dune: Awakening. Players also have to use surveying, cartography, and climbing when it comes to resource farming and exploration.

Each class in Dune: Awakening has access to the skills of other classes, and players can unlock the other classes through a series of quests to get access to all of them. The location of the trainers makes it easier and more efficient to find them and finish their quests in a certain order. Players who want to prioritize improving their transportation abilities should choose the following skills, techniques, and passive abilities.

Players generally start their adventure in the central southern area of the Hagga Basin, where they'll also build their first base. The Trooper is one of the most accessible trainers at this time, located in Griffin's Reach, followed by the Planetologist at Imperial Testing Station #2. The other three are located in the Vermillius Gap in the northern section of the map.

Start With Bene Gesserit Or Trooper

The Best Initial Classes

Bene Gesserit char creation Dune Awakening

Each has skills that are useful for traveling from the first level, but for the best transportation build in Dune: Awakening, players should start with either the Bene Gesserit or the Trooper class during the initial character creation process. Unlocking the skill trees for one of these classes immediately grants the character abilities that can help make early desert travel and exploration that much easier.

It's up to the player which class they choose to start their adventure, but the Bene Gesserit is highly recommended due to the location of the Trainers. Players will visit Griffin's Tradepost as part of their initial quest chain, but Harko Village, where the Bene Gesserit trainer is waiting, which is in the Vermillius Gap, much farther north.

Bene Gesserit

The Bene Gesserit skill tree is divided into three branches. Of these, the Weirding Way and Body Control branches have the most to offer for aspiring survivalists and explorers.

  • Bindu Sprint: From the Weirding Way branch, this Ability allows the character to run forward with a burst of speed for several seconds, allowing for faster travel or a quick escape.
  • Sun Tolerance: From the second tier of the Body Control branch, this slows the negative effects of sun exposure, such as dehydration and sunstroke, when exploring or gathering.
  • Recovery: This is the root of Body Control, and it makes recovery faster if the character is critically injured.
  • Self-Healing: This third-level passive ability improves the benefits of any healing methods the character uses, such as healkits or bandages.

Trooper

The Suspensor Training and Gunnery branches give the Trooper some advantages when it comes to freedom of movement. Many of the skills they have related to crowd control and battlefield management are also handy when climbing or exploring.

  • Anti-Gravity Field: Creates a sphere that removes the effects of gravity on anything and anyone within. It can be used on enemies to limit their movements or in a strategic location to prevent falling damage if the player climbs too high.
  • Suspensor Dash: One tier above the Anti-Gravity Field, this technique allows the character to dash forward in midair.
  • Field Maintenance: More useful later in the game when the player has access to advanced tools and weapons, this reduces their durability loss, allowing the player to stay in the wilderness to forage and travel for longer periods.

Find The Planetologist

Unlock The Hidden Class

Dune Awakening Planetologists

It's easy to find Imperial Testing Station #2 almost due east of Griffin's Reach. Speak to the lone resident, Derek Chinara, and he'll send the player on a fetch quest to find and return an important set of records lost in the ruins below. Complete them, and he'll unlock the Planetologist skill tree, which has some of the most ideal skills for observation, exploring, and repairing.

Planetologist

All three branches have something for gathering, discovery, and travel, with the Explorer and Mechanic branches proving to be the most beneficial.

  • Suspensor Pad: This ability from the Explorer branch is used to raise the player a few extra feet into the air, which is useful when surveying or traveling.
  • Mountaineer: This second-tier ability reduces the drain that climbing takes on Stamina, and can reach -25% at level 3.
  • Cartographer: Gives players the ability to make sinkcharts of the important locations in any given region, provided they have a blank one in their inventory.
  • Vehicle Repair: The first choice in the Mechanic branch gives players a reduction on their vehicle's maximum durability loss.
  • Fuel Efficient Driver: Improves the fuel efficiency of all ground vehicles for longer and more thorough exploration and resource-gathering expeditions.

The Swordmaster Skills

More Hydration, Better Survival

Dune Awakening - How To Unlock The Swordmaster Skill Tree

The Swordmaster trainer, Arno, can be found in Pinnacle Station in the Eastern Shield Wall region. He gives the player a series of quests that require an extensive amount of traveling, so hopefully the character has already opened up the previous skill trees or saved up for the ornithopter ride to reach him. The player should already have visited the Bene Gesserit, Planetologist, and Trooper trainers before seeking out the Swordmaster.

Swordmaster

The skills in the Swordmaster trees that make transportation and survival easier overlap into combat skills and are found in The Way branch.

  • Optimized Hydration: One tier up in The Way skill branch, this skill gives the character more stamina provided they remain well hydrated, which helps with climbing and sprinting.
  • Field Medicine: This passive ability improves the beneficial effects of healkits by 10, 15, and eventually 20%, which is great for travel and combat.
  • Disciplined Breathing: A third-tier Technique that improves the character's Stamina recovery rate, also from The Way branch.
  • General Conditioning: A fourth-tier ability that gives the player more overall Stamina, which means better and faster sprinting and climbing skills.
