10 Beginner Tips in Dune Awakening
9 Beginner Tips in Dune: Awakening

For those diving into the sands of Dune: Awakening, here are some useful beginner tips to help them in their adventure.

This is a ranked list of the best skills in the Trooper arsenal, keeping in consideration how useful they are for combat, how viable they are for PvP, and other factors like utility, mobility, and synergies with other Skill trees.

1 Energy Capsule

A Buff Skill That Increases Damage

  • Pros: Short burst of damage, optimal for ranged encounters
  • Cons: Need to be timed perfectly, leaves players vulnerable to stagger

The Energy Capsule is one of the strongest buff skills in Dune: Awakening. The Trooper consumes a pill that acts as a neuroestimulant, enhancing their precision and ranged damage for a set duration. This skill is the number one reason why players should invest in the Trooper Skill tree, since a 35 % boost to ranged damage is a tremendous asset to have, no matter which type of gun players use.

The downside of this skill is that it has a short duration (only 10 seconds) but that's more than enough to destroy most opponents, and if players want more, its cooldown period is not so long so they can re-activate it again after 25 seconds (reduced if players have the Battle Hardened technique equipped).

2 Shigawire Claw

Can Be Used Offensively And For Traversal

  • Pros: One of the fastest ways to move in the game, also stuns enemies
  • Cons: Needs to be aimed, and requires practice to use it in combat

The Shigawire Claw is one of the best Skills in Dune: Awakening, and not only for its utility for fast movement, but also because it allows for synergizing with lots of the Trooper and Mentat (and even Bene Gesserit) to create awesome combat maneuvers.

Dune Awakening: Best Transportation Build

For players who want an easier time traversing the desert in Dune: Awakening, here's the best build you can use.

Aimed at enemies, the Shigawire Claw stuns them briefly, allowing players to land a lot of precision shots or even chain other powerful skills like the Assault Seeker. Outside of combat, it serves as a grappling hook that attaches to surfaces and allows for faster exploration and movement through the rough environments of Arrakis.

3 Assault Seeker

A Handheld Homing Missile

  • Pros: Powerful ordnance that deals lots of damage
  • Cons: Weak against high mobility targets

The Assault seeker is an aimed/directional attack that sends a homing explosive drone in the designated direction. The explosive homes at incredible speed and explode upon hitting a target or a hard surface, causing a considerably large AoE. From all Trooper skills in Dune: Awakening, this is by far the most aggressive and effective against large groups of enemies.

On the downside, targets with high mobility (especially Bene Gesserit players) can dodge an incoming Seeker, and since the launch animation is quite visible, they will know when the Trooper launches it in their direction. Still, it can wipe out entire enemy camps and it has a relatively low cooldown.

4 Suspensor Blast

Extremely Useful Against Melee

  • Pros: Great AoE Crowd Control
  • Cons: Limited Effect, needs to be well-timed

The Suspensor blast charges a shockwave of energy that sends enemies back (staggering) and slows them down for a few seconds. It is one of the Trooper's Capstone skills, and it's considerably useful against melee opponents.

But since it has a high cooldown, it needs to be well-timed, more so if players are facing more than one melee opponent at the same time. This skill was made to counter blade users/rushers, so it's a mandatory skill in big PvP battles.

5 Explosive Grenade

Simple But Effective Way To Deal With Crowds

  • Pros: Good AoE Damage
  • Cons: Delayed blast, enemies can dodge it in open spaces

The Explosive Grenade is a self-explanatory skill that allows Troopers to throw a compact explosive that bounces over surfaces and explodes after a brief delay. It causes almost as much damage as the Assault Seeker, but in a smaller radius.

It's great for enclosed combat, or to make enemies get out of cover by lobbing it, or making it bounce in corners. In PvP, it sows panic when enemy guilds are taking cover behind the Mentat's shield deployment, since it automatically destroys it and its shrapnel hurts everyone nearby. It becomes less effective in open spaces, where enemies can execute evasive maneuvers.

6 Attractor Field

A Targeted Debuff That Turns Foes Into Bullet Magnets

  • Pros: Great for Team Battles
  • Cons: Bad for PvE, loses effectiveness

Using the same aim and hit mechanic as the Shigawire Claw, the Attractor Field launches a projectile that creates a small bubble that attracts all projectiles fired into the bubble and makes them land in the Center of Mass. This means that any enemy marked by the Attractor Field becomes a bullet magnet and will receive the full impact of all projectiles shot at it.

Less effective in PvE/solo battles, since its true potential shows when there's a firing squad focusing fire on a certain enemy. For example, a Trooper enemy player equipped with a Lasgun, who needs to be taken down as soon as possible.

7 Gravity Field

The Perfect AoE Crowd Control

  • Pros: Great to deal with many enemies
  • Cons: Can be countered by high mobility targets

The Gravity Field is a grenade-type skill that can be lobbed/arched, and becomes quite useful when there's a need to deal with groups of enemies enclosed in certain spaces. The Trooper can use this skill to create choke points, slowing down opponents in a big AoE bubble, or to delay charging melee opponents.

On the downside, Bene Gesserit players can totally dodge this AoE blast by using Bindu Sprint, and they are most likely combining their skill tree with the Swordmaster, so they are basically speed-addicted ninjas. There's no chance the Trooper can land a Gravity Field in a situation where it's a 1v1 against a player using the Bene/Swordmaster build, much less if there's more than one. And there's always more than one.

8 Anti-Gravity Field

Briefly Suspends Foes, Can Be Used To Avoid Fall Damage

  • Pros: Good against charging melee enemies
  • Cons: Affects the Trooper and their Allies as well

One of the most annoying things players can encounter on the Dune: Awakening battlefields is a Crowd Control-focused Trooper, and this becomes even more evident the more players dive into Deep Desert exploration. Groups of players banding together have been tormented by Troopers spamming Anti Gravity and Gravity Fields like crazy.

This is a valid tactic, but then again, this skill is only good for that, and only that. It is true that it can create good strangepoints in enclosed spaces (like shipwrecks and PvE enemy bases), but skilled players know how to counter it. Minus points for being a friendly-fire type of skill, that can affect the players' swordmaster allies as well. So, never use this skill when one of the party members is going for a melee rush. On the other side, it can also be used as a safety net to fall from high distances. Good for a safety landing after a Shigawire propulsion sends players flying.
