Funcom has announced its very first official building contest for Dune: Awakening, inviting players to show off their bases for a chance to win exclusive rewards. Released June 5, Dune: Awakening is an open-world multiplayer survival game developed by Funcom, the studio best known for Conan Exiles. Life in the desert world of Arrakis revolves around resource gathering, thirst management, and base-building.

Dune: Awakening has proven to be Funcom’s fastest-selling title to date, handily smashing previous records. On Steam, the game boasts an all-time peak of 189,000 concurrent players. That said, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing. Concerns about limited PvE endgame content have forced the developers to push out multiple updates to address the issue. Additionally, griefers have taken to making life difficult for solo players by abusing some of the game’s mechanics, leading some to quit out of frustration. Fortunately, Funcom has been quick to respond to community feedback as it comes in, stemming the flow of players leaving to a large extent.

In an official blog post on the Dune: Awakening website, Funcom announced a base-building contest open to all players that will run from July 14 to July 28 (6 PM EST). Submissions can be photos or videos of the most impressive base layout uploaded to Twitter, BlueSky, Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube with the @duneawakening or #DuneAwakening tags. Alternatively, uploads on the Pimp My Dune website tagged with “Building Contest” will also be considered. Only one submission per person is allowed, and the developers have asked players to limit themselves to no more than 20 photos and no longer than 2 minutes for a video entry.

The building contest is centered around faction-themed bases in Dune: Awakening. Players have three options: Atreides, Harkonnen, or CHOAM. Although it is allowed to use CHOAM building sets in an Atreides-themed base, for example, Funcom warns that bases will be judged by how closely they stick to their chosen faction’s theme. The contest winners will be announced on the Dune: Awakening website sometime after August 8.

Each faction will have one winner and two runners-up, totaling three winners and six runners-up. The three first-place winners will be gifted a LEGO Royal Atreides Ornithopter set, a 1,369-piece model of the Atreides aircraft featured in Dune: Part One. The six runners-up will obtain a Dune: Awakening Collector’s Box from Madrinas, which will contain a tub of spice chai latte milk tea, a limited-edition Dune: Awakening shaker cup, and an in-game redemption code for a memory of pain mural decoration.
