Dune: Awakening is set to expand its saga with a free Chapter 2 update and a paid DLC, titled The Lost Harvest, releasing on September 10. The upcoming content drop is especially geared towards Dune: Awakening players who have already finished the popular survival game's inaugural story chapter.
Since coming out in June, Dune: Awakening has experienced record-breaking success and continues to attract tens of thousands of players on Steam. Its developer, Funcom, has shipped a few different updates in response to player feedback over a short span in a bid to drive engagement. In the latter half of July, the Dune-inspired multiplayer title carried out an in-game event, leading to a peak of over 72K concurrent Steam users at one point. Now, bigger and better plans seem to be in the making at the Norwegian studio for September.

Dune: Awakening Getting a Free Story Update and a Paid DLC Soon
In a major announcement, Funcom revealed that two massive story additions will kick off Dune: Awakening's content roadmap on September 10. First off, players will get the follow-up to the base game's story with a free Chapter 2 update, which includes new characters, locations, contracts, dynamic encounters, archetype armors, as well as character re-customization. Simultaneously, the game's first expansion, The Lost Harvest, will also be released for $12.99 (free for Season Pass owners). It was revealed that the DLC will contain a standalone story, which tasks the player with tracking a Miner’s Guild spice harvester that was lost in transit. Additionally, it features a brand-new upgradable vehicle called the Treadwheel, the Dune Man Building Set, alongside various different cosmetics for weapons, armor, and vehicles.
Before the aforementioned update becomes available, the Dune: Awakening developer is poised to introduce certain changes, such as "a new conflict" that will bridge the gap between the current version of the game and the major update. There is also some good news for those still on the fence about the game, with the devs rolling out a 10-hour free demo that will be available till August 24. Progress and owned content for these players will carry over to the full game when they purchase it.
Notably, this huge update was announced at a critical time for Dune: Awakening, where divisive player reviews have caused its "Recent Reviews" on Steam to dip to "Mixed." Negative user scores started piling up from mid-July and apparently stem from players' concerns about poor PvP experience, especially near the end of Dune: Awakening's campaign. It will be interesting to see if the newly revealed updates manage to improve this situation and win the players' support back.
