Dune: Awakening has been out in full for less than a week, but some players have already grown frustrated with the game's PvP and other endgame mechanics. By and large, fans have been impressed with the game, which currently sits at a "Very Positive" rating on Steam. Still, like many MMOs before it, Dune: Awakening has encountered some issues with players taking advantage of some mechanics to make things harder for others.
It did not take long for the MMO to become a hit. Within hours of its early access launch, Dune: Awakening attracted over 90,000 concurrent players on Steam, and as of the time of writing, it's sitting on top of Steam's Top Sellers chart. As much fun as many seem to be having in it, though, the late-game experience has not been equally enthralling for everyone.
Dune Awakening Dev Gives Update on Console Release Plans
Funcom shares a new update on Dune: Awakening, revealing when the highly anticipated survival MMO is expected to land on consoles.
Not long after Dune: Awakening came out of early access, some players began voicing frustrations with the Landsraad, the game's main endgame activity. For the uninitiated, Dune: Awakening's Landsraad mechanic lets players contribute to server-wide decisions by completing goals for their house. While it's a unique twist on conventional MMO factions, some Redditors have pointed out that only a handful of players can make much of a difference. Solo players and those in smaller guilds, in particular, often struggle to get much out of it. Some users have even suggested potential improvements to either revamp the system or offer alternatives for different groups to get more out of the game.
Some Dune: Awakening Players Find the Landsraad and PvP Unfair
Other players have taken issue with some PvP mechanics. More specifically, they've found that it's possible to pilot an ornithopter into another player to take them out in one hit while the vehicle takes little to no damage. While most of the game is PvE, Dune: Awakening players can lose resources and Solari when they die in one of the PvP areas, making this tactic a frustrating reality for anyone trying to navigate these zones without an ornithopter of their own.
Funcom's Chief Creative Officer, Joel Bylos, did respond to the ornithopter issue and said that developers are working on a fix "ASAP." As for the imbalance in the Landsraad, it's unclear whether the team is looking into potential solutions or what those may be. It does take between 40 and 50 hours to beat Dune: Awakening's main quest, so there is plenty of in-game content outside these activities for players to enjoy in the meantime.
Rise from survival to dominance on the most dangerous planet in the universe. Dune: Awakening combines the grit and creativity of sandbox survival games with the social interactivity of a large, persistent multiplayer game to create a unique and ambitious Open World Survival MMO.
