Dune: Awakening will be offering players a free play period starting on September 11. This new trial will be considerably less limited than the first one, and in addition to giving newcomers an opportunity to try out the game for free, Dune: Awakening will also be discounted for the first time since its launch.
The Funcom game released to a strong start, with Dune: Awakening reaching a playercount peak of over 189,000 players shortly after release. However, the concurrent player count has dropped considerably since then, with numbers currently trending towards under 20,000. Making sure that active players are happy with the game is one way to ensure the well-being of the title, and the upcoming content update will likely draw some established players who have dropped the game back in. But it's also important to attract new players, which this free period will likely accomplish.
Dune: Awakening Players Are Reportedly Losing Items
A new Dune: Awakening bug is causing players' items to disappear, and Funcom has a potentially annoying workaround to help players avoid it.
Dune: Awakening Announces New Free Weekend
Accordingly, Dune: Awakening will be offering a free play period running from September 11 until September 15. Unlike the prior free period, Dune: Awakening hasn't imposed any significant restrictions on free players this time. Free players will be able to travel where they like, whereas the first one prevented free players from exploring Harko Village, Arrakeen, and the Deep Desert. The upcoming Dune: Awakening Chapter 2 content will also be accessible. That update has also been moved up, now arriving on September 9 instead of September 10.
Unlike the first free period, there are also no time restrictions on this trial, so players can make the absolute most of it. Progress in the game will be carried over should players choose to buy Dune: Awakening, allowing them to continue wherever they left off in the trial, and they'll also receive a 20% discount on the game.
Perhaps one of the most exciting prospects for new and existing players is the ability for free trial players to play with friends who own the game. In the first trial, free players were restricted to trial servers only. This wasn't a popular limitation, as those who were already enjoying Dune: Awakening couldn't invite friends to come and check out the game with them. This time around, free trial players only need to make sure they choose the World/Sietch that their friends are on, and they'll be able to play Dune: Awakening together. Lastly, both free and full players will receive an Arrakis Rising mural that they can put in their base for playing on the free weekend.
