Dune: Awakening is an MMO and a survival game, which means there's a lot of exploration, gathering, and crafting involved in the leveling process. One of the many resources that players will need to find and stockpile is a device called an EMF Generator, used in the construction of various survival and building tools.
The first places that characters visit in their earliest levels will be locations that contain EMF Generators, and they might not be essential immediately, but it's a good idea to stockpile them for future crafting. They're used in a variety of recipes that include machines, vehicles, and other items essential for surviving the desert of Shai Hulud.
Dune: Awakening - Best Stillsuits & How To Get Them
There is a great selection of Stillsuits for players to make use of in Dune: Awakening, but these are easily the best ones available.
What Is An EMF Generator?
A Common Component In Many Recipes
- Required for various recipes in the Tutorial and low-level general fabrication.
The EMF Generator is described in the game as a "fabrication component," and the example given for a common recipe is the Cutteray tool, which is used for mining low-level ore. To add more detail, this description refers to the Cutteray Mk1 model; there's an improvised version that only requires Salvaged Metal, and the character can make it by hand without any kind of fabrication device.
Any of the tools that players need at the Mk1 or Mk2 levels require EMF Generators and a General Fabricator to construct. These include Blood Extractors, Dew Reapers, Static Compactors, and Survey Probes, among other things. These items aren't weapons or armor, but they're essential for finding, gathering, and refining resources.
A Survival Fabricator, which is a more advanced device that players can put in their homes, is a quick way to replace many of the tools that require an EMF Generator. It's useful should the character lose their accessories because of quicksand, PvP, or the whims of Shai Hulud.
Dune Awakening: 7 Most Useful Items In The Tutorial
Dune: Awakening is a challenging survival MMO, and right from the tutorial, players will acquire several key items that they will need to progress.
Where To Find Them
This Special Ingredient Can't Be Constructed
- Check the map to narrow down likely farming locations.
When the player first starts to construct gear and equipment using a General Fabricator or a Survival Fabricator, most of the recipes require EMF Generators. They're plentiful in the Hagga Basin, but the Vermillius Gap also contains several good farming locations. Checking these locations on the map will often tell the player what resources are there
Open World Locations
The best way to find EMF Generators is in the open world. These are useful parts and can be looted from various places, but be prepared for a fight.
- Moisture-sealed caves. Players will learn to use a knife to cut into these caves using their knives to harvest the Micro-andwich fabric, and there are often EMF Generators in chests and lockers inside.
- Scavenger Camps. The smaller campsites that are often guarded by only one or two enemies might have a chest that contains EMF Generators.
- Shipwrecks. There are a few big shipwrecks scattered through the desert, and they often have some of the rarest and valuable materials, but these are often PvP areas, and other players might be competing for the same resources.
- Imperial Testing Stations. Players have to visit Imperial Testing Station #2 to unlock Planetology anyway, and they often contain useful resources for building and exploring to go along with this mostly non-combat class.
- Intel Points. When the map shows a compass and says "Intel" with a number next to it, this is an area that grants extra research points, and these locations also have other handy resources like EMF Generators.
Recycling
Players who have advanced enough in their house-building skills can build a Recycler in their base, and certain advanced pieces of gear will yield EMF generators. Any items that require an EMF Generator will also yield them when put through the Recycler, but the amount will be less than what was initially required.
Buying Them
EMF Generators are also available for purchase if the player has access to certain social hubs and enough Solaris to spend.
- Tradeposts. Griffin's Reach Tradepost is in the central Hagga Basin, and the vendor within often has EMF Generators in their inventory. In the Vermillius Gap, there's a vendor in The Anvil who might carry them. Both locations have a taxi service.
- The Exchange. Available in bigger cities like Harko Village and Arrakeen, the Exchange is the game's Auction House. Anything and everything is available for sale here, including EMF Generators.
