The Buggy is a landbound vehicle in Dune: Awakening meant for mining operations and supply runs that require hauling back tons of materials. It is relatively cumbersome to drive and is much slower than the Sandbike and the Ornithopter, but its strengths make it more than worth investing in.
Players who are constantly tired of having to run back to base after maxing out their backpack inventory capacity of 175v will find the 1500v worth of storage that a standard Buggy comes with to be a game-changer for gathering resources. Here’s how to craft it.
How to Get a Buggy in Dune: Awakening
Players can unlock the Buggy Mk3 Assembly, Buggy Cutteray Mk3, and Buggy Storage Mk3 after reaching the Steel tier in Research. The recipe will need to be unlocked via Research by spending Intel points. Doing so will unlock the following recipes:
- Buggy Rear
- Buggy Chassis
- Buggy Hull
- Buggy Engine
- Buggy PSU
- Buggy Tread
- Buggy Storage (Optional)
- Buggy Cutteray (Optional)
- Buggy Utility Rear (Optional)
- Buggy Booster (Optional)
Choose between a Buggy Rear (adds extra passenger seats) or a Buggy Utility Rear (adds mining turret station); both cannot be installed at the same time.
How to Make a Vehicle Fabricator
Buggy components can only be crafted at a Vehicle Fabricator, which is a machine you’ll need to unlock via Research. It requires the following materials to craft:
- Steel Ingots x40: Combine Iron Ingots, Carbon Ore, and Water at a Small Ore Refinery station.
- Complex Machinery x30: Obtained from special points of interest in the Vermillius Gap and later areas.

All Buggy Mk3 components can also be purchased from Kahraman Reis, a vendor in Harko Village. However, this is extremely expensive and not typically worth it.

Dune: Awakening - 7 Best Skills To Unlock For Transportation
How to Get a Free Buggy in Dune: Awakening
Like Sandbikes, players can sometimes find an unclaimed Buggy in the world of Dune: Awakening. There are three confirmed locations where players can find a free Buggy. They are:
- Southern Comms (Eastern Shield Wall)
- Sentinel City (Eastern Shield Wall)
- Khidr’s Shadow (Jabal Eifrit Al-Janub)
Most Scrappy Junk Buggies will have very low durability for basically all of its parts, most of which is permanent damage that cannot be fixed with Welding Wire. Additionally, free Junk Buggies do not come with Storage, a Cutteray, or a Utility Rear, which means you’ll need to research, craft, and attach these modules to the Buggy in order to start mining with it. Fortunately, these Buggies periodically respawn in the same location, which means you have an infinite supply.
Can Solo Players Use a Buggy to Mine in Dune: Awakening
In Dune: Awakening, players can only mine with the Buggy by sitting in the turret seat. For solo players, this means that you need to switch to the driver’s seat to drive and the turret seat to mine. This is achievable by selecting and holding the Interactions key (F) and choosing the appropriate seat from the radial menu. It’s not as fast as having two players on the job, one in the driver’s seat and one in the turret, but it is definitely doable.
A Buggy Cutteray Mk3 cannot mine Aluminum; you’ll need to research an Mk4 for that.

Is Buggy Worth Using in Dune: Awakening
Absolutely! A Buggy’s value lies in its ability to store and mine an absurd amount of ore in its inventory. It is a supply runner’s best friend, as players can use it to gather heavy ores like Iron and Aluminum without having to constantly return to the base over and over to dump things in chests.
A Sandbike is used for land traversal, an Ornithopter is used for aerial traversal, and the Buggy is used to mine resources and carry items back to base. All vehicles have their purpose, and well-rounded players will have all three in their garage.
Skipping the Buggy to go straight for the Ornithopter is possible but not recommended. This is because once players reach Aluminum-tier items, the demand for basic materials skyrockets. In order to satisfy those requirements, making supply runs without the Buggy will take far too long, as it comes with a whopping 1500v storage capacity (Mk3 version). It’s not simply about the large inventory either. Buggy’s Cutteray can harvest ores and metal a lot more efficiently than the regular Cutteray. It might seem slow, but you’ll quickly rack up thousands of pounds of materials in your Buggy’s inventory within minutes of mining—something that’s impossible to achieve otherwise.
