For those wondering what faction they should choose, and how this influences the gameplay, here's a complete guide on how to pick factions in Dune: Awakening, including the benefits of joining either faction (or none), how the Landsraad works, and information on the mysterious third faction.

Should You Side With House Harkonnen Or Atreides?

The game's PvP and PvE systems are intertwined by the Faction and Landsraad systems, and if players want to unlock some of the best recipes (and some cosmetics as well) of the end-game, they should pick one of the two main factions. One is House Atreides, honorable and duty-bound, and the other is House Harkonnen, crafty, vicious slavers, who will do anything to win the war.

Depending on the player's playstyle, they should pick one of the two by talking to their representatives at Anvil Trading Post. Both representatives will offer a series of missions to make the player prove their loyalty, and once they have unlocked the first ranks, they will start receiving rewards such as Solaris, extra XP, and faction cosmetics and gear unlocks at the vendors in Arrakeen and Harko Village.

No matter what Faction players choose, they will still be able to visit both Arrakeen and Harko Village to complete Trainer Quests, trade with other players, or purchase goods from their stores. The only thing that becomes inaccessible are Faction Missions and Vendors.

If players are associated with a Guild, they will notice that there are also affiliated with one of the main factions, and their PvE and PvP contributions to the many houses allied with the two main factions will have influence in the overworld through the Weekly Landsraad: A council that votes changes in the world such as resources, XP distribution, and more.

What is the Landsraad In Dune: Awakening?

The Landsraad is basically the political system in Dune: Awakening, where Guild Masters of each guild that belong to certain factions have a vote power depending on how many members and control over the Deep Desert Territory they have, and how much their members have contributed to the war effort of the factions they support.

From every Weekly reset of the Deep Desert through the Coriolis Storm to the next one, players will be able to vote one of three decrees rotating per week. For example: Exclusive Vehicle Imports Rights will unlock a trader from one of the houses that will visit the main cities and unlock a series of unique customizations for vehicles. On the other hand, Schollary Collaboration will increase all experience gained for all players by 50%.

It is an interesting system, and players will be able to participate actively in this vote by earning the right to decide through their contribution to the War of Assassins global event. To do so, players need to talk to Minor House Representatives located in the outposts spread across the maps, and either participate in PvP Missions or donate resources.
