Combat plays an important role in ensuring your survival in Dungeonborne. Understanding each class, their respective skills, and assigned weapons will help you take on the various challenges of the dungeons, including enemy players. Combat in this PvPvE dungeon crawler demands a balance of offense and defense. Knowing when to attack and when to fall back is crucial to coming out victorious in nailbiting encounters, especially when you're up against an enemy team.

One of the defensive options available in Dungeonborne is the ability to parry melee attacks. However, this ability is limited to only a few weapon types in the game, particularly those that shine in close-range combat. Moreover, not all weapons parry the same, and knowing how each weapon differs from the other will help you consistently parry in Dungeonborne.

How Parrying Works In Dungeonborne

Longsword Parry in Dungeonborne

Parrying in Dungeonborne is a high-risk, high-reward mechanic that involves blocking incoming melee attacks at the right moment. Precision plays a major role if you want to execute a perfect parry, which opens the opportunity for a counterattack.

The game features two parry mechanics, including perfect parry and standard parry. Perfect parries can be performed by pressing the block input right before the attack hits you. When you perform a perfect parry, your sword/shield will glow white, and you can follow up with a powerful counterattack. Perfect parries completely negate incoming damage, but off-timed parries deal chip damage.

Parrying in Dungeonborne can be quite challenging, but with enough practice, you'll be able to read enemy attacks more effectively, including those from challenging bosses. Mastering the parry skill also gives you an advantage against enemy players who rely on melee classes, allowing you to outsmart their aggression with your strategic playstyle.

How To Parry In Dungeonborne

Perfect Parry vs Off-Timed Parry in Dungeonborne

Dungeonborne allows you to parry incoming attacks with a longsword and shield. However, the method of parrying with either of the two weapons is quite different. With the longsword, you'll need to press the block input right before any enemy attack hits you, resulting in a distinct clank. You'll also notice that your longsword glows white when you perfectly execute a parry. The parry can be followed up with a quick counterattack to deal devastating damage to enemies.

On the other hand, if you prefer playing the classic shield and sword combo, you'll need to hold down the block input to enter a guard stance and release the input right before an enemy attack hits you to parry it. When executed perfectly, you'll negate all damage and break through the enemy's defense. You can also follow up with a powerful sword strike that deals critical damage to the enemy.

Here are the classes in Dungeonborne that can effectively parry:

  • Fighters: Fighters can weld all weapon types, except for orbs and staves.
  • Swordmasters: Swordmasters can use one and two-handed swords, shields, and crossbows.
  • Death Knights: Death Knights can also use one and two-handed swords, shields, and crossbows.
