A Dungeons and Dragons player has recently created an incredible moving battlemap to use in their campaign. Dungeons and Dragons has a long tradition of creative Dungeon Masters coming up with all sorts of props to use in their home games, and this is one of the most incredible projects to be shared with the community recently.

With over 50 years of existence, Dungeons and Dragons is the oldest tabletop role-playing game. The game had multiple editions over the years, and the most recent one was an update to the Fifth Edition rules, released in 2024. The new edition consisted of a new Player’s Book and Dungeon Master’s Guide released in 2024, and the more recent D&D’s Monster Manual, launched earlier this year.

Now, a D&D player called RedcapPress shared the latest creation of their home game: an amazing moving battlemap with spinning clock gears. According to the DM, their party was about to fight inside a huge clock tower to stop a local crime lord, so they decided to prepare something special. The gamer ordered laser-cut gears and mounted them on a piece of scrap plywood, printing a grid and putting it over them, and the result was incredible. The post was incredibly popular with the community, obtaining over 25,000 upvotes from fellow Dungeons and Dragons fans.

D&D Player Creates Amazing Moving Clock Tower Battlemap

So far, 2025 has been a year of major changes for the D&D community. Back in April, for example, the creative director of D&D left after 28 years at Wizards of the Coast. Chris Perkins was one of the most prominent figures in the brand, but decided to leave after the revised 5th edition of D&D was released.

The same happened with Jeremy Crawford soon afterward. After being the lead creator for D&D for over 18 years, Crawford left Wizards of the Coast, also citing the shipping of the last revised 5E book as the reason for his departure.

Despite these drastic changes in the leadership of D&D, the year is packed with amazing new products for Dungeons and Dragons fans. July will see the release of the Dragon Delves anthology of adventures, while the setting book Eberron: Forge of the Artificer will come out in August. These releases will be followed by the Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set in September, and an unknown book in October. On November 11, gamers will be able to purchase the Player’s Guide and the Adventure’s Guide for the popular Forgotten Realms setting, too.
