Dying Light 2 implements a lot of RPG mechanics in its character progression. Actions performed in the open world, from combat to Parkour, will level up Aiden's abilities the more they're performed. The same can be said of character interactions and choices throughout the game's story.
Unfortunately, character choice doesn't have the same kind of impact or flexibility as something like Skyrim or The Witcher. In Dying Light 2, Aiden is required to choose between two important factions in the game called The Peacekeepers and The Survivors. Thankfully, there is no right or wrong choice when it comes to factions, as it has very little impact on the game's story. However, the factions are important because of the individual benefits they can offer the protagonist in the long term. The player can unlock faction upgrades by improving their standing with either the Peacekeepers or the Survivors, and assigning them territories.
The Factions Explained
The Survivors
The Survivors are the first faction that Aiden will encounter in Dying Light 2's story. They live up to their namesake in the way they have banded together to survive and flourish as a community. They place importance on developing their agriculture and maintaining resources. As survival is of greater importance to them, they offer rewards in Parkour rather than combat. They are experts in getting themselves out of a tight spot and having the ability to explore the rooftops of the city with ease.
The Peacekeepers
Where the Survivors are more about survival and exploration, the militaristic Peacekeepers tend to favor force and brutality above all else. Their political ideals and methods are often in conflict with The Survivors and The Peacekeepers are unwavering in their vision of a future molded by their own hands. Unsurprisingly, the military-based faction offers upgrades that are focused on combat, with upgrades that will aid the protagonist when fighting Dying Light 2's undead hordes or human enemies.

Which Faction Should You Choose?
Even though The Survivors and The Peacekeepers have their own set of morals that appear to conflict with one another, there isn't a right or wrong choice when it comes to picking a faction. It's entirely down to how much importance one puts in Parkour or combat skills.
The good news is the player can improve their standing with both factions. Of course, there is a limit to how many upgrades one can unlock by gaining a reputation with both, but picking which upgrades first can give Aiden the best of both factions.
Recommended Faction Upgrades
The first three upgrades one should focus on should come from the Survivors and are as follows:
- Ziplines allow Aiden to traverse between buildings Assassin's Creed style.
- Airbags can launch Aiden into the air and reach rooftops with speed.
- Landing Bags will be installed around the city, so Aiden can land safely when leaping from rooftops.
It is recommended that the remaining seven upgrades come from the Peacekeepers and are as follows:
- The Crossbow Pack is a powerful crossbow that rapidly fires bolts that cause more damage than arrows. The bolts can also be modified to fire elemental-based bolts.
- Molotov Lanterns are explosive lanterns that are installed around the city by The Peacekeepers.
- Pendulum Traps a large trap capable of killing large groups of enemies in one swing.
- The UV Trap is an ultraviolet trap that is used to blind and injure zombies and even stun powerful enemies like the Volatiles.
Ultimately, the choices and preferences are entirely subjective and based on what an individual finds more beneficial to their play style. Whether it's Parkour or fighting enemies more effectively, Dying Light 2 offers a lot of flexibility designed to suit one's preferences.
