Update 1.18 for Dying Light 2, also referred to as the Community QoL Update, has just been released, adding a number of bug fixes and changes to the game. Prior to this latest build, the last major update for Dying Light 2, Update 1.17, was released in late June.

Dying Light 2 is the sequel to Techland's popular survival horror experience from 2015, and it is considered by some to be one of the best open-world zombie games ever made. Since its February 2022 release, Dying Light 2 has received a steady stream of updates and patches, as well as a story DLC in the form of Bloody Ties. A new update has recently been pushed out for the game that brings plenty of improvements to the title.

The 1.18 update for Dying Light 2, which went live on August 20, fixed a long list of bugs, including one that restricted players from connecting to others in Quick Join. It also addressed an issue that prevented people from being able to finish some quests under certain conditions in cooperative play. The latter problem sometimes manifested during Dying Light 2's late-game Epilogue arc, according to the patch notes. Techland said that some of the changes implemented in the latest update were community-driven, such as the move to make gear pieces aside from Premium items droppable. The studio also told fans that it was hard at work on developing the Tower Raid mode for Dying Light 2 which is currently in beta.

Update 1.18 dropped right as Techland announced a new standalone game titled Dying Light: The Beast at Gamescom 2024. The Beast will mark the return of Dying Light protagonist Kyle Crane, and will be offered to owners of the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2 at no extra cost when it becomes available.

A release date for this self-contained zombie apocalypse experience has yet to be announced, but Techland revealed that it was approaching the end of development for The Beast and would share launch details as soon as possible. While the studio noted that it currently has no plans for any new DLC, it assured fans that it was committed to providing updates for Dying Light 2 in the five years following the game's launch.

At the start of 2023, Techland revealed that the Dying Light series had already sold 30 million copies worldwide. Dying Light 2’s predecessor enjoyed a massive player count spike in May thanks to a generous 85% discount that dropped the game's price to just $2.99.

It’s been 20 years since the events of the original game. The virus won, and humanity is slowly dying. You play as Aiden Caldwell, a wandering Pilgrim who delivers goods, brings news, and connects the few remaining survivor settlements in barren lands devastated by the zombie virus. However, your true goal is to find your little sister Mia, who you left behind as a kid to escape Dr. Waltz's torturous experiments. Haunted by the past, you eventually make the decision to confront it when you learn that Mia may still be alive in Villedor — the last city standing on Earth.

You quickly find yourself in a settlement torn by conflict. You’ll need to engage in creative and gory combat, so hone your skills to defeat hordes of zombies and make allies. Roam the city, free run across Villedor’s buildings and rooftops in search of loot in remote areas, and be wary of the night. With every sunset, monsters take control of the streets.
